[Review] A SECRET FOR A SECRET (All In #3) by Helena Hunting

Source: Egalley through work/Canadian distributor, Thomas Allen & Son.
Publisher: Montlake Romance
Release Date: May 12, 2020
Number of Pages: 304 (Paperback)

DESCRIPTION

From New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting comes a new romance about trading secrets, breaking the rules, and playing for keeps.

My name is Ryan Kingston, and I’m a rule follower. I’ve never been in a fistfight. I always obey the speed limit. I don’t get drunk, and I definitely don’t pick up random women at bars.

Except the night I found out that my whole existence has been a lie.

I got drunk. And picked up a stranger.

Her name was Queenie, and she was everything I’m not: reckless, impulsive, and chaotic. We did shots and traded secrets. And ended up naked at my place.

She left me a thank-you note in the morning and her panties as a parting gift. But no way to contact her.

Six weeks later I’m sitting in the first official team meeting of the season, and there she is. I neglected to mention that I’m the goalie for Seattle’s NHL team.

And Queenie? Turns out she’s the general manager’s daughter.

REVIEW

Oh boy, this book was an emotional roller coaster and I loved every minute of it!

This Book In 5 Words:

Amazing. Sexy. Addictive. Passionate. Phenomenal.

King was absolutely AMAZING...and exactly what I hoped he'd be: a stand-up amazing man, but with a secret edge to him that only came out around his "Queen," our lovely main character, Queenie, who I adored! She was sassy, pure chaos to King's calm, and flawed in a very realistic and authentic way. I loved both her and King to bits! Their chemistry was so, so sexy and they complemented each other in the most wonderful of ways! I loved getting to see their relationship grow!

Along with loving King and Queenie, I loved seeing so much of the other All In couples (Lainey and RJ, and Bishop and Stevie), and I loved that we saw a lot of Violet, Alex, and their children...makes me very excited for one of Helena's future projects since there are some strong hints to two future novels--as always with Helena Hunting's books, I'm always eagerly waiting for more...I'm greedy like that with my faves. ;)

I honestly have nothing, but good things to say about A SECRET FOR A SECRET! I adored this book so, so much! I loved the characters, I loved the romance, and I absolutely loved how the story unraveled! I've yet to meet a Helena Hunting book that I didn't thoroughly enjoy and love, but her All In series is most definitely my favourite so far! Highly recommend it to anyone who loves sports romance, contemporary romances, sexy alpha heroes, and heroines that you can't help wanting to be best friends with! ;)

[Review] A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR (All In, #2) by Helena Hunting

Source: Egalley through work/Canadian distributor, Thomas Allen & Son.
Publisher: Montlake Romance
Release Date: January 28, 2020
Number of Pages: 302 (Paperback)

DESCRIPTION

From the New York Times bestselling author of Pucked and A Lie for a Lie, a new stand-alone romance about trading favors, battling wills, and winning love.

When I joined Seattle’s NHL expansion team, I thought it was the start of something great. But nothing ever goes the way you expect. Take my introduction to my new neighbor. She came rolling in on the hot mess express at midnight, making a racket while she tried to get into my team captain’s apartment. Did I mention that he’s married to a woman who definitely was not her?

Imagine my surprise when I end up with an injury that has me out of the game for weeks, and she’s the one to offer to help me. I should probably add that she’s not the captain’s mistress. She’s his sexy, pastel-haired younger sister.

So we come up with an arrangement: she rehabs me so that I can get back on the ice sooner, and she can add a professional athlete that isn’t her brother to her client list. Seems simple enough. As long as I can keep my hands to myself and my hormones in check.

REVIEW

First Impressions...

Wow! I thought A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR was amazing! I absolutely loved Bishop and Stevie! I loved the way that their relationship developed, all of the crazy intense chemistry, and every single moment between them! They were wonderful! I also loved seeing more of RJ and Lainey and some of our favourite Pucked characters. ;) I've been a bigtime Helena Hunting fan for a while now, but this is quickly becoming my favourite series of hers so far!!!

This Book In 5 Words:

Sexy. Funny. Hilarious. Adorable. Exceptional.

As I mentioned, I loved A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR! I thought that Bishop and Stevie were wonderful! Bishop was surly, broody, and so awkward at times, but it was in the most endearing of way. He was also so freaking sweet...and genuinely tried so hard and I really just loved seeing him do his best to support Stevie...it was so sweet! Stevie, on the other hand, was a lot less awkward and definitely not broody. She was sassy, strong, and determined to make her own way. I loved that she was contradictory in many ways, but always managed to stay true to herself. :)

Stevie and Bishop were fantastic apart, but they were even better together and their romance was amazing! It was definitely a slow-burn...but boy was it worth it. I loved how their connection grew even before their romantic relationship ever started. I also loved the animosity between Stevie and Bishop at the start...I wouldn't call it hate, but there was definitely some fiery reactions going (their morning battles were hilarious...and I totally loved all of Bishop's "wardrobe choices" :P). It was clear right from the start that they had some intense chemistry! Once feelings started and things were underway...well bam! Their chemistry was phenomenal and I really loved how compatible they were...I'm honestly super excited just to get to see more of them in the next book now that they're together!!! :D

I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves slow-burn romances, especially if you love sport romances, broody, well-meaning heroes, and sassy, strong heroines!

Star Rating:

★★★★★

Overall, I loved A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR! I thought that the characters were wonderful, the romance was a fantastically sexy and well-developed slow-burn, and the story and side-characters were wonderful--I couldn't put it down! I absolutely ADORED the first book in Helena Hunting's All In series, A LIE FOR A LIE, and I loved this one, so I am ridiculously excited for the third book now, A SECRET FOR A SECRET! RJ and Bishop are amazing...and I just can't wait to see how amazing King is, too! ;D

Number of Pages: 277 (Paperback)

DESCRIPTION

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series comes a romantic comedy about instant attraction, second chances, and not-so-little white lies.

Sometimes I need an escape from the demands, the puck bunnies, and the notoriety that come with being an NHL team captain. I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am.

Lainey is the perfect escape from my life. My plan for seclusion becomes a monthlong sex fest punctuated with domestic bliss. But it ends just as abruptly as it began. When I’m called away on a family emergency, I realize too late that I have no way to contact Lainey.

REVIEW

At this point, I've already read A LIE FOR A LIE twice, and both times I couldn’t put it down until I’d finished reading it. I absolutely adored this book!!! It has drama and some angst, but mostly it’s just charming and full of feel-good moments that lure you in and keep you smiling! I'm already chomping at the bit to pick it up and read it all over again--this was without a doubt my top book for 2019 and I loved it so, so much!

This Book In 5 Words:

Heart-warming. Sexy. Sweet. Riveting. Adorable.

RJ and Lainey were absolutely amazing and the romance was steamy, intense, and also so ridiculously adorable in the best possible way! I loved that it’s a spin-off of Helena’s Pucked series (but still works completely as an all-new standalone series), so it was wonderful to get to see some of our favourite Pucked characters, but I also loved meeting Lainey and getting to know our leading man, RJ, better. I'm pretty much always a fan of Helena's leading characters, but I have a serious soft spot for RJ. I love him so, so much. He was sweet, generous, loving, and gives the best safety cuddles. ;)

If you can't tell already, I basically loved everything about A LIE FOR A LIE. I loved the romance. I loved the story. I loved the way that the story itself was set up--parts of it happen in the past and I thought that Helena did an amazing job in weaving the two storylines together. I also loved the friendships, and getting to see RJ and Lainey grow closer was truly wonderful. I also really, really loved that so much of this story focused on RJ and Lainey getting to know each other, and on how their relationship evolved. We actually get to enjoy a pretty large chunk of the story where we see them bond rather than just face drama and let me tell you...it...is...so refreshing! I can't remember a time before this where you're given a chunk of a book to just savor the actual relationship part of a romance. It was spectacular! :D

I'll stop now because I could just go on and on forever about how amazing A LIE FOR A LIE was, so I'll wrap this up and I have to say that I can’t wait to see what happens next in the All In series! I’ve already read (and LOVED) the next book, A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR, and now I'm really looking forward to seeing my new faves in the final book, A SECRET FOR A SECRET!!!

Star Rating:

★★★★★

I highly recommend A LIE FOR A LIE to Helena Hunting fans, sports romance fans, and anyone who loves romances that are full of heartwarming moments that will leave you feeling like you’ve just been given safety cuddles/snuggles and a comforting cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows!

REVIEW

😍😍😍

This was my first time reading one of Nicola Rendell’s books, but you can bet it definitely won’t be my last! In her bio, she says she writes “naughty romantic comedies” and that is sooooo accurate and it’s the perfect way to describe this book!

SHIMMY BANG SPARKLE was deliciously sexy and naughty, but soooooo funny and sweet, too! Stella and Nick were amazing and their chemistry was on fire...a few chapters in and these two had me swooning and giggling. I loved both of them apart, but I really loved what they brought out in each other! Special mention goes to the adorable dog Queen, Priscilla! I absolutely loved all of the parts where Priscilla was with Stella and Nick, they were too cute! It made me remember just how much I love dogs in books.

Along with the wonderful romance aspect of SHIMMY BANG SPARKLE, the story itself was amazing! I loved the idea of a jewel heist and I loved that Stella belonged to gang of female jewel thieves. The dynamics between her and her besties, Ruth and Roxie, fellow members of the Shimmy Shimmy Bangs were fantastic!

And the heist...wooowwweee! I’m not going to tell you about it because I think you need to read about it yourself, but I loved seeing the plans come together and how detailed everything was. Mostly I just loved seeing Nick and Stella fall further and further in love during it. *dreamy sigh*

Overall, I loved SHIMMY BANG SPARKLE! If you’re a fan of steamy romances where the characters have amazing banter and chemistry, or if you just straight-up love romantic comedies and sexy books, I definitely recommend this one! And if you’re a fan of romances and heist films separately, definitely check this one out! I don’t mind heist films, but I feel like this sexy romance aspect is the part that would make me go from liking them to loving them. I always love what a good ol’ romance brings to a story. 😉

Highly recommend this one!

A new kind of love story about flipping houses, taking risks, and landing that special someone who’s move-in ready…

SHE’S GOT CURB APPEAL

HE’S A FIXER UPPER

He’s just a down-on-his-luck lawyer who needed a break from the city and agreed to help his brother work on a few homes in the Hamptons. When he first meets Rian, the attraction is undeniable. But when they start competing for the same pieces of prime real estate, the early sparks turn into full-blown fireworks. Can these passionate rivals turn up the heat on their budding romance — without burning down the house?

I FLIPPING LOVE YOU, set in the Shacking Up world, follows two people, both working in real estate, who find themselves vying for the same properties in the Hamptons, leading to a sometimes-not-so-friendly competition.

REVIEW

Why oh why did I ever wait to read this?! I should’ve picked it up and read it the moment that I had it in my hands! 😉 I absolutely loved I FLIPPING LOVE YOU

Pierce and Rian were so fantastic and their chemistry was off the charts!!! Loved their banter, and every single interaction between them! Rian was snarky, smart, sassy, and so inspiring. She’s been through so much and I loved seeing Pierce push his way through her walls and into her heart. And Pierce...wowzers! I usually love Helena’s leading guys so I was expecting to like him, but holy heck I absolutely adored him! He was sweet, cocky, so damn sure of himself, incredibly sexy, supportive, good with his hands, and just all-around wonderful. I loved him so freaking much and paired with Rian, they were phenomenal!

Star Rating:

★★★★★

I loved this pairing. I loved this story...I seriously loved everything about this book! Read it, read it, read it if you love romances with sizzling chemistry, fabulous banter, and sinfully sexy leads. You can read this as a standalone or as part of the Shacking Up series, totally up to you. ❤️

REVIEW

When I first finished Regretting You, I was totally lost for words! I was so full and overwhelmed emotions, but I totally knew that I loved it...I've cleaned this up a bit now, but for the most part, here's my very ramble-filled first impression after having finished Regretting You.

First off, as soon as I started Regretting You, I didn't want to put it down! My emotions were all over the place, and like I typically do with CoHo's books...I cried (more than once haha), but I loved this book so, so much!

I don't think I've ever read a book where a mother/daughter relationship was such a central focus or portrayed the way that it was here, and plot-wise, I most certainly have never read anything remotely like Regretting You. This book is raw and doesn't hold back...it actually made my jaw drop several times. It completely enraptured me and it overwhelmed feeling-wise, but in the best way.

This is the sort of book that you finish and it makes you realize why you love reading...it was such an absolute pleasure to read.

I loved Morgan and Clara and I loved how the story alternated between their POVs...I loved the romantic parts of the story, the family struggles...absolutely everything! I wasn't sure what kind of story to expect going in, but I loved every moment. For a long time Maybe Someday has sat at the top of my mind as my favourite CoHo book, but honestly I think Regretting You has just faced off against it to fight for that top spot on the list (sorry Maybe Someday!). Soooooo amazing!

All in all, I just have to say that I absolutely LOVED this book! I'd recommend it to readers who already love CoHo (trust me, you'll LOVE this one, too), but I'd also recommend it to readers who are new to Colleen Hoover and are looking for books that kind of toe the line between romance and woman's fiction, especially if you like stories that unfold in unexpected ways and push you to think and feel. Highly, highly recommend...especially as Regretting You is 100% on my top books list for 2019--can confirm that now!

Star Rating:

★★★★★

Now I want to know ALL THE THINGS and want to talk about Regretting You like crazy!!!

Are you a fan of Colleen Hoover's?
If yes...what's your fave CoHo book?
Have you read Regretting You yet?
If not, are you planning to?

REVIEW

First Impressions...

I was hoping for a steamy, Dynasty-like romance and that’s exactly what I got! I absolutely loved DISCRETION! Sadie and Olivier were fantastic, their chemistry was phenomenal, and the steam in this book was intense!!! Loved every single minute of it and I’m super excited to see where this series goes!

This Book In 5 Words:

Addictive. Sexy. Thrilling. Dramatic. Intense.

What Did I Like:

- The characters! I loved Sadie and Olivier! I loved how down-to-earth and determined Sadie was, but most of all, I loved that throughout DISCRETION she was always willing to take a chance and she was absolutely always there for those that she loved. And Olivier....*dreamy sigh* boy was he wonderful! I loved how right away we were able to see beneath his public persona. He was thoughtful, kind, doting, and I especially loved how he opened up to Sadie and showed her his true colours. Both characters were fairly closed off, so one of my favourite parts of their relationship was seeing them open up and seeing how their banter and chemistry evolved throughout the story.

- The romance...the steam...oh my! I'm going to be one of the first to admit that I like steam in my romance. I'm okay without it, but I will admit that I do prefer my romances on the steamier end and DISCRETION had so much glorious steam! It was sexy, fun, and I loved every single second of it!

- The drama and story! I know drama isn't for everyone, but personally I love it when I go into a story knowing that it'll be there and DISCRETION doesn't hide it's drama at all. Right from the description, we know that this is going to be part of a dramatic series, and let me tell you, it certainly is! I absolutely love dramatic TV shows, so I found this book to be super addictive and NEEDED to know what was going to happen...now I'm eagerly waiting for book two, DISARM! ;)

- The cover!!!! *heart eyes* I don't normally factor covers into reviews at all, but I just have to comment to say that I've been smitten with this cover since the moment I saw it. ;)

What Didn't I Like:

- Nothing! I went into this book expecting it to be dramatic and thus slightly unrealistic, so I was 100% super, duper ready for it! While I didn't like some of the characters as people...they were fantastic as villains in this story. :P

Star Rating:

★★★★★

Read If You Like:

Steamy contemporary romances where the characters have phenomenal chemistry that blossoms into something deeper! High-stake dramas! Billionaire romances!

Overall, I loved DISCRETION! I thought that it was an absolutely amazing story and I had so much fun reading it! I loved that it was romantic, sexy, and extremely dramatic all rolled into one epic package, and once I started, I was hooked and I didn't want to put it down! Highly, highly recommend this to anyone who loves steamy romances, too!

REVIEW

First Impressions...

Oh boy!!!! I have been eagerly waiting for Silas and Delilah’s story ever since we discovered her was her superfan...and it was so worth the wait! Silas was sweet, spectacular, and just so wholeheartedly good and nice! I loved him so much, and I adored Delilah! She was guarded, and cynical, so it was amazing to see her open up throughout this story!!! I loved every single minute of it!

This Book In 5 Words:

Sexy. Spectacular. Sweet. Serendipitous. Scintillating.

What Did I Like:

- Basically everything. ;)

- Silas and Delilah. I have loved Silas since the first time we met him in Sarina's earlier books, and each time we learned more about him, I grew to love him more and more! I especially loved seeing how much of a "superfan" he was of Delilah Sparks and I just knew there had to be more to their story than him just being a fan...getting to see the two of them together and learning their history was wonderful! I also loved Delilah! Both characters are so passionate and they were so supportive of each other and I really loved seeing how they fit together....soooooo good!!! :D

- The other characters! One of the things that I've loved about Sarina Bowen's Brooklyn and Brooklyn Bruisers books is seeing how all of the characters interact! The team/organization dynamics, and seeing how everyone fits together has been so fantastic! I loved getting to see so much of it in SUPERFAN--it was perfect! :D

- The romance!!!! Wooooowwwwzers! I adored Silas and Delilah together...so...freaking...much! They were sweet, worked well together, and the romance was also so intense and their chemistry was amazing! It was exactly what I'd hoped we would get when I was eagerly hoping for Silas and Delilah's story to be shared next!

What Didn't I Like:

- Nothing! I thought that this book was absolutely wonderful and I loved every minute of it. It had me feeling all the feels and I was 100% here for all of it. ;)

REVIEW

I've been a HUGE fan of Jaci Burton's Play By Play series since the very first book, The Perfect Game, and I've loved every single book in the series so far! I've absolutely LOVED seeing her build up the Riley family, the Cassidy family and every other amazing character in between! We started with Mick and Tara in the first book...and now in THE FINAL SCORE we're making our way back to them with their son, Nathan...and his love interest happens to be Mia, the only daughter in the Cassidy family! We've met her four older brothers and seen them all find love, so it was absolutely wonderful to come back to see her budding romance with Nathan! Even better, I'm love friends-to-lovers romances and Jaci did an amazing job with this one!

If you're new to the Play by Play series, you won't necessarily know the backstory for a lot of these characters, but don't worry, you won't be spoiled if you decide to pick it up now! You'll see who they're with, but with Jaci's books, the stories of how they got there are really what make them all so wonderful. Of course, if you start here,  you're going to love it, and then you'll desperately want to get your hands on all of the books that came before this one...so don't say I didn't warn you! That being said, don't let the fact that this is a bigger series stop you from picking it up. Jaci Burton's romances are phenomenal, and if you're a contemporary romance fan at all, I seriously can't recommend her books enough. I read A LOT of romance, and Jaci Burton is an absolute favourite of mine! Her books are on my auto-buy list (especially her Play by Play series!!!), and she also happens to be the romance author that got me obsessed with sports romances in the first place!

If you're a fan of sexy stories with a whole lot of heart, then Jaci Burton is absolutely for you! Her characters are amazing! In the 13 books (and several novellas) that make up the Play by Play series, I have yet to run into any repetitive storylines or to feel like her characters are copies of each other! The characters, the stories...and even the sexy scenes, are all incredibly unique and she manages to keep her writing fresh no matter how far along in the series you get! I was actually a bit worried when I first heard about THE FINAL SCORE because I thought it was the last book in series and I didn't want her series to be finished yet (I don't think I ever will!)....don't worry though, it isn't! There's already another book planned for February 2018 called SHOT ON GOLD...and I can't wait to read it, too!

Somehow...despite being smitten with Jaci's books for years this is the first time that I've actually reviewed one on my blog, so I hope you don't blame me for gushing about how awesome she is before talking specifically about THE FINAL SCORE! ;)

As should come as no surprise by how much I've already raved about Jaci Burton in this review, I've loved every single book in her Play by Play series! I'd be hard pressed to ever pick a favourite, but for right now (until the next book comes that is ;D), THE FINAL SCORE is sitting right at the top of my list! Nathan and Mia were phenomenal main characters, and I loved getting to know them better! I also adored their dynamics together. As I mentioned, I love romances that are friends-to-lovers, so I was a huge fan of how their story developed. They were so open and honest with each other, and their chemistry was off the charts! All of the books in this series are sexy, but WOW! Mia and Nathan had hot enough chemistry that I thought my kindle might just overheat. ;)

Overall, I loved THE FINAL SCORE! It's the perfect addition to an already amazing sports romance series, and I can't wait for Jaci Burton's next book...SHOT ON GOLD!

Any other sports romance fanatics out there?
Have you read any of Jaci Burton's books yet?
If you have, do you have a favourite (I know! Impossible to choose :P)?
If not, have I convinced you to pick one up yet?

Audiobook Review: A MONSTER CALLS by Patrick Ness & Read by Jason Isaacs

Source: Received a sample copy through my work, Thomas Allen & Son, the Canadian Distributor for Brilliance Audio. All opinions are my own.
Publisher: Candlewick on Brilliance Audio
Release Date: September 27, 2016

Description from Goodreads:
The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.

But it isn’t the monster Conor’s been expecting. He’s been expecting the one from his nightmare, the nightmare he’s had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming....

This monster, though, is something different. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor. It wants the truth.

Patrick Ness spins a tale from the final story idea of Siobhan Dowd, whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself. Darkly mischievous and painfully funny, A Monster Calls is an extraordinarily moving novel about coming to terms with loss from two of our finest writers for young adults.

“Compelling...powerful and impressive.” —Philip Pullman, author of the award-winning His Dark Materials trilogy

“Exceptional...this is storytelling as it should be—harrowing, lyrical, and transcendent.” —Meg Rosoff, author of the Printz Award–winning novel How I Live Now

“Brilliant and elegant, with all the thrills and ambition you would expect from the author of the Chaos Walking trilogy.” —Frank Cottrell Boyce, award-winning author of Millions and Cosmic

“Haunting, lyrical, powerful, and true. Patrick Ness has crafted a masterful story about grief and loss, love and hope that lingers in the heart like a ghost.” —Libba Bray, author of the Printz Award-winning novel Going Bovine

I have to preface this by saying that I've already read A MONSTER CALLS, and absolutely adored it. It's an extremely emotion read, and while it absolutely guts you, it's also breathtakingly beautiful and real. I consider A MONSTER CALLS to be one of the most profound stories I've ever read, and I know that it's one that I'll return to year after year, and no matter how many times I read it, it'll never ever get old.

Now that you know I already love this story, I have to let you know that I like to go back and listen to audio versions of books that I love so that I can get to experience them in a whole new way. When it comes to listening to an audiobook of a book you've already enjoyed, there's always the risk that the reader won't manage to convey the story as effectively as it comes across on paper, but that definitely wasn't an issue here at all. Jason Isaacs did an absolutely AMAZING job reading A MONSTER CALLS! He managed to flawlessly capture each and every one of the characters. His intonation was amazing, and I thought that this recording was perfection. Absolute perfection!

For new readers to A MONSTER CALLS who enjoy audiobooks, I wholeheartedly recommend this recording, and for readers who've already read and loved the book, you should definitely give this audiobook a shot the next time you decide to do a reread. You really won't regret it!

Not only is A MONSTER CALLS an amazing story (seriously, even if you don't listen to the audio...go read the book!), but this audio is a fantastic adaptation of the story, and it's made me love it all over again!

Who else loves A MONSTER CALLS?

And is anyone else a fan of going back and listening to an audiobook version of their favourite stories? If you are, which one has been your favourite to do that with?

I think A MONSTER CALLS or THE SCORPIO RACES are currently tied as my favourites to do this with...both are AMAZING!!!

Review: Jesse's Girl (Hundred Oaks #6) by Miranda Kenneally

Source: Received an egalley from the publisher through Netgalley.
Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
Release Date: July 7, 2015
Number of Pages: 304 (Kindle Edition)

Description from Goodreads:
Practice Makes Perfect.

Everyone at Hundred Oaks High knows that career mentoring day is a joke. So when Maya Henry said she wanted to be a rock star, she never imagined she’d get to shadow *the* Jesse Scott, Nashville’s teen idol.

But spending the day with Jesse is far from a dream come true. He’s as gorgeous as his music, but seeing all that he’s accomplished is just a reminder of everything Maya’s lost: her trust, her boyfriend, their band, and any chance to play the music she craves. Not to mention that Jesse’s pushy and opinionated. He made it on his own, and he thinks Maya’s playing back up to other people’s dreams. Does she have what it takes to follow her heart—and go solo?
Since I mention it ALL the time, it should be no surprise that I love Miranda Kenneally's books...LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! She's one of my favourite authors, and she's yet to disappoint me⎯Jesse's Girl was no exception!

When I started reading Jesse's Girl I had just finished a big homework assignment...and I didn't stop reading until I'd finished it! I loved everything about this book. The characters, the music, the story...absolutely everything was amazing!

While most of the other books in the series are focused on sports in some way or another, Jesse's Girl is all about music. The title probably gives that away a bit though. :P It's also very fitting because Maya's love interest happens to be named Jesse.

I'm a HUGE music fan, so I really love how Jesse's Girl revolved around music. It was also AMAZING to see Maya and her family. Maya is Sam Henry's little sister! Fans of the Hundred Oaks series will remember that Henry was a pretty big character in the first book, Catching Jordan. I've always loved how the Hundred Oaks series connects all of the characters, and it was fantastic to get to see Jordan and Sam again! I just loved that we got an update on what they're up to after all this time...especially since we got to see them so closely! :D

Apart from having an awesome brother, Maya herself was wonderful! She was passionate, unique, and an amazing person. I absolutely loved her character and I would love to have her as a friend. I loved seeing her challenge herself, and I really loved seeing her relationship with Jesse evolve. And Jesse! I just loved him all-around, and I really loved seeing him open up to Maya. He also happened to be a sexy, country star which I definitely didn't mind at all. ;) haha

I loved Jesse's Girl so, so much! I feel like this series just seems to get better and better with every book! At this point, I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favourite, but I wholeheartedly recommend Jesse's Girl...and I also recommend that you go back and read all the REST of the books in the Hundred Oaks series! ;)

What do you think?
Have you started reading the Hundred Oaks series yet?
And have you read Jesse's Girl?

Review: Game Winner (New York Kings #6) by Collette West

Source: Received an ebook from the author as a beta reader, and a finished copy in exchange for an honest review.
Release Date: Already Released.
Number of Pages: 452 (Kindle edition)
Purchase Links: Amazon.com | Amazon.ca | B&N | Smashwords

Description from Goodreads:
Playing center field for the New York Kings, Jake Woodbury has one of the most prestigious jobs in all of sports. To the world, he's the good-looking, soft-spoken minister's son who’s survived celebrity without a hint of scandal. But, inside, he's reeling from a secret that seems destined to haunt him forever.

Scarlett Moore is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, famous for singing about her celebrity ex-boyfriends. The CEO of her record label has carefully honed her provocative image since she was fifteen. Sex sells, and Scarlett’s well aware that it takes more than talent to stay on top.

One thing is clear: She’s the last thing Jake needs. And he’s the do-gooder jock she should avoid at all costs. But when the game begins, all bets are off.
Oh my goodness!!! :D I jumped for joy when Collette West asked me to beta read for her again, and I was super excited to finally get to read Jake Woodbury's story...and it was even more amazing than I expected!!! Right from the start, I was completely hooked. I have loved all of Collette West's New York Kings books, but this one had my favourite introduction yet! We hadn't met (or even heard of) Scarlett yet, so we had to meet her somehow, and I absolutely loved how it happened!!! The moment where Jake first heard her sing, and where they interacted for the first time were absolutely perfect, and I was desperate for them to meet in person!!!! :D

I've always loved Jake, but when we got to see more of him in Scott's story (Perfect Game) we were rooting for him to not get the girl because Carrie was meant for Scott...so I was soooo happy to finally see Jake getting his story told, and have him meet the girl of his dreams. :D And Scarlett was definitely the girl of Jake's dreams!

On the surface, they didn't really match. She's a famous singer with a reputation for being a heartbreaker who has risen to fame singing the tales of her exes and breakups in her songs, while Jake is known for his religious beliefs, and for being an all-around guy. On paper, he's a bit boring, and she's pretty superficial, but we know better. Jake and Scarlett were PERFECT for each other!! I loved seeing them get to know one another, and the passion between them was off the charts!

While Jake and Scarlett were definitely on fire romance-wise, I loved that they had a deeper connection than that. Their chemistry was instantaneous, but I loved that it was music that really drove them together. I always loved how musical Jake was, and it was perfect that he met someone who inspired him musically, and I really loved that they both inspired each other to write music! :D

Overall, I absolutely loved Game Winner! And I can't wait to see the final book because knowing Collette, she'll make it even better!! :D

I'd recommend all of Collette West's New York Kings books, but this one would definitely be an awesome place to start if you're not quite sure about starting a romance series yet. ;)

What do you think?
Are you ready to give sports romance as a genre a shot yet?

ABOUT COLLETTE WEST

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette's impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she's not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at collette_west@yahoo.com.

EXCERPT

Mid-smile, I turn my head toward the on-deck circle and catch Jake Woodbury staring in our direction.

He must be looking over at his ex, Roberta, trying to get her attention. What a sucker. Dude, let it go.

But, when Roberta bends down to get something out of her bag, his eyes don’t pull away. In fact, he even grins slightly, and I realize he’s not looking at her. He’s looking at me.

Okay, I'm used to guys checking me out. It's nothing new. But, just as my skin starts to prickle, he looks away.

Maybe he's just trying to make Roberta jealous by coming on to me in front of her. Yeah, that must be it. It's too good of an opportunity to pass up, what with Scarlett Moore, the princess of pop, sitting right next to his ex. But this is neither the time nor the place for him to be openly flirting with me. He has a job to do. A very important job: get on base and kick-start the Kings' lineup. But all he's doing is kick-starting my beating heart.

But, if I'm being totally honest with myself, that's not what this feels like. In fact, it feels like he couldn't care less that his ex is sitting beside me.

And then I know I'm not imagining things when he takes his bat off his shoulder and points the end of the barrel at me.

"This one's for you, Scarlett!" he calls out while confidently striding by.

I smile, despite myself. All right. I’ll play along with you, hot stuff.

Before I can even think twice about it, I raise a hand to my lips and blow him a kiss.

Fangirl Fridays (5): OUTLANDER!!!

"Fangirl Fridays" is pretty self-explanatory: you fangirl about something/someone on Fridays. :) It's a meme-of-sorts that's seen on a lot of tumblr blogs, and I thought it would be a fantastic idea to bring to my blog! I couldn't find someone specific to credit, so whoever first thought of "Fangirl Fridays"...you are awesome! :D I love to fangirl so I'm definitely excited for this!

TODAY IS ALL ABOUT OUTLANDER!!! :D

Well, well, well! It's been a while since my last Fangirl Friday, but I thought that today would be the perfect day to start up with it again. I've already gushed about today topic, Outlander, a little bit, but I'm in the midst of a budding obsession so I have to admit that I just am not even close to being sick of fangirling over Outlander yet! :P

Before I start gushing even more about the show, I absolutely LOVED the book! Diana Gabaldon tells an amazing story!! I can't believe that I've been waiting this long to read the Outlander series, but I'm so glad that I finally started it! I've got plenty of books to catch up with, so here's hoping that I love them all! So far I'm on the second book, Dragonfly in Amber, and I'm loving it, too!  :D

As I've said before, I'm completely in love with this adaptation! I feel like they've done an amazing job with absolutely everything--the cast, the setting, the clothing, the tone of the show...it's all perfect! The cast in particular are absolutely amazing! When it comes to fangirling about this show though, my favourite part to fangirl over is Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser. :P

So, enjoy some sexy gifs with Sam as Jamie...and even some with Catriona Balfe as Claire. The chemistry, oh boy! It is strong with these two. ;)

This one is definitely my favourite. ;)

Add caption
I found a couple of fantastic tumblrs that had these gifs. If you like them, or if you like Outlander, check them out: "Do Ye Not Know That, Sassenach?", and Sexier Than Braveheart.

If you like hearing Sam Heughan speak Gaelic, or want to learn some words, you can also watch videos of him and some of the other cast pronouncing and explaining words they use on the show. :)

A bunch of them are on Youtube, so here you go! I've embedded the first video, where you can watch Sam saying "Sassenach"! (You'll definitely want to make the video bigger! ;D):

Outlander! Outlander! Outlander!

Okay, I think I've gotten my fangirl out for a bit...but I'm sure you'll be seeing more random gifs or pictures of Sam Heughan as Jamie in the future. ;)

Where are my fellow Outlander fans?
Who else is seriously loving the show?
Anyone just here to enjoy the sexy gifs? ;)

CHARACTER INTERVIEW:

DAISY & RYKE

And here's my interview with Daisy and Ryke! :D I've underlined my questions, and Ryke and Daisy's names are before each of their answers! ENJOY!!! :D

--------------------------------------------------

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, Daisy and Ryke! It’s fantastic to have you here! :D
Ryke: Thanks…*watches Daisy sit cross-legged on the chair*
Daisy: *catches him watching and smiles* “What?”
Ryke: *shakes his head and looks back at Ambur* “Just to warn you, she’s going to be moving a lot during this interview. She can’t fucking sit still.”
Daisy: *looks to Ambur* “Just to warn you, he’s going to curse a lot.” *turns to Ryke* “And just to warn you, we’re not being filmed.”
Ryke: “They could be describing what we’re fucking doing outside of the quotes.”
Daisy: *scoots chair closer to Ryke and wraps her arm around his waist*
Ryke: *gives her a look* “You’re pushing it, Calloway.” *leaving her arm around him, he looks to Ambur again* “What’s the first question?”

I’m going to start with a nice easy question, what was your first thought when you two met?
Ryke: “Who’s that crazy fucking chick?”
Daisy: *smiles* “Really?”
Ryke: “No.”
Daisy: “Well, I thought he was hot.”
Ryke: *brushes her arm off his waist* “She was fifteen when I first met her.”
Daisy: “He was twenty-two.” *unties her shoelace and starts making a braid*
Ryke: *points at Daisy* “What’d I tell you? And we’re only two fucking minutes in.”

What’s your favourite thing about each other?
Ryke: *runs hand through his hair* “My brother is going to fucking kill me.”
Daisy: “It’s my ass, isn’t it?”
Ryke: “It’s not your ass.”
Daisy: “My hair?”
Ryke: “Definitely not your fucking hair.”
Daisy: “I give up.”
Ryke: “But you still have every fucking body part to go?” *pulls her close to check the time on her watch (he’s not wearing one)* “We only have three thousand more fucking hours.”
Daisy: “My favorite thing about Ryke is his sarcasm and profanity.”
Ryke: *rolls eyes* “Next question.”

Even though you’ve got a bit of an age gap between you, you’re amazing friends, why do you think you get along so well?
Daisy: *glances at Ryke while she pulls off the second shoe string* “Are we amazing?”
Ryke: “No, we’re horrible fucking friends.”
Daisy: “Thought so.” *nudges his shoulder with her elbow* “We should probably answer this one straight.”
Ryke: *shrugs* “She’s fun to hang out with…I don’t know. We both just don’t give a shit about the media, no offense.”
Daisy: “And we both like jumping off cliffs.” *grins mischievously*
Ryke: *watches her braid the second shoelace* “That too.”

How difficult has it been for both of you dealing with your siblings’ addictions?
Ryke: *pauses* “It’s not easy.”
Daisy: *looks over her shoulder* “Hey, is that a water fountain? Do you mind if I…?” *gets up to get a drink*
Ryke: “She doesn’t like to talk about Lily’s addiction to the press.”

Are you excited that people finally get to read your story in Hothouse Flower?
Daisy: *returns with two cups of water and passes one to Ryke* “Oh yeah.” *takes a sip and sets the cup on the floor* “It’s going to be freeing, you know?”
Ryke: *a brief smile escapes as he looks at Daisy* “Yeah, I’m happy about it.”

QUICK! Random question time! And feel free to explain if you like! :)
Coffee or Tea?
Ryke: “Coffee.”
Daisy: “Coffee, but I love energy drinks and prefer Lightning Bolt! because it tastes so good.”
Ryke: *raises his brows at her* “Like that plug wasn’t obvious.” (Lightning Bolt! is made by Fizzle, a world-renowned soda company founded by Greg Calloway, Daisy’s father.)
Daisy: “Shh, my dad will be happy and you could use some brownie points.” *smiles bright*
Ryke: “How about I just make you fucking brownies?”
Daisy: “I love your fucking brownies.”
Ryke: *shakes head* “Next.”

Reading or Watching TV?
Ryke: “Watching TV.”
Daisy: “Like Naked and Afraid. And Blue Lagoon.”
Ryke: “Blue Lagoon isn’t a television show.”
Daisy: *mock gasps* “It isn’t? What lies have I been fed?!” *stands up on the chair theatrically* “Wha—” *the chair teeters and it slips beneath her. Ryke stands and catches her before she face plants.*
Ryke: “How about sitting on your ass this time?”
Daisy: “Can my ass sit on your lap?”
Ryke: “Let’s try the chair first.”

Dog or Cat?
*everyone is back in their seats*
Ryke: “Dog.”
Daisy: “Ditto.”

Being along or in a group?
Ryke: “Either.”
Daisy: “A group. I don’t like being alone.”

Chocolate or candy?
Ryke: “If I don’t say chocolate, Daisy might fucking kill me.”
Daisy: “Chocolate is sex.”
Ryke: *shakes head* “No it’s not.”
Daisy: *smiles wide*

Night or Day?
Ryke: “Night.”
Daisy: “Day.”
Ryke: *hesitates* “She hates nighttime.”
Daisy: “It’s not my favorite thing.”
Ryke: “That’s a fucking understatement.”

Summer or Winter?
Ryke: “Summer. The weather is better to climb.”
Daisy: “Summer.” *concentrates on the second shoelace braid*

Do you have anything else you’d like to say?
Daisy: *distracted, she pulls Ryke closer and snatches his hand.* “This is for you.”
Ryke: *watches her tie the lace around his wrist and then she ties one around hers.* “Cute. But how are you going to walk without shoelaces, sweetheart?”
Daisy: *kicks her shoes off* “Barefoot.”
Ryke: “Not fucking surprised.”

Thanks again for taking the time to visit! I’ve loved having you both here, and I’m extremely excited to read your story in Hothouse Flower!!
Daisy: *stands and waves* “Thanks for having us!”
Ryke: *grabs her around the waist and throws her over his shoulder. She laughs, and he kicks the door open as they leave*
