[Review] A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR (All In, #2) by Helena Hunting

Source: Egalley through work/Canadian distributor, Thomas Allen & Son.
Publisher: Montlake Romance
Release Date: January 28, 2020
Number of Pages: 302 (Paperback)

DESCRIPTION

From the New York Times bestselling author of Pucked and A Lie for a Lie, a new stand-alone romance about trading favors, battling wills, and winning love.

When I joined Seattle’s NHL expansion team, I thought it was the start of something great. But nothing ever goes the way you expect. Take my introduction to my new neighbor. She came rolling in on the hot mess express at midnight, making a racket while she tried to get into my team captain’s apartment. Did I mention that he’s married to a woman who definitely was not her?

Imagine my surprise when I end up with an injury that has me out of the game for weeks, and she’s the one to offer to help me. I should probably add that she’s not the captain’s mistress. She’s his sexy, pastel-haired younger sister.

So we come up with an arrangement: she rehabs me so that I can get back on the ice sooner, and she can add a professional athlete that isn’t her brother to her client list. Seems simple enough. As long as I can keep my hands to myself and my hormones in check.

REVIEW

First Impressions...

Wow! I thought A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR was amazing! I absolutely loved Bishop and Stevie! I loved the way that their relationship developed, all of the crazy intense chemistry, and every single moment between them! They were wonderful! I also loved seeing more of RJ and Lainey and some of our favourite Pucked characters. ;) I've been a bigtime Helena Hunting fan for a while now, but this is quickly becoming my favourite series of hers so far!!!

This Book In 5 Words:

Sexy. Funny. Hilarious. Adorable. Exceptional.

As I mentioned, I loved A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR! I thought that Bishop and Stevie were wonderful! Bishop was surly, broody, and so awkward at times, but it was in the most endearing of way. He was also so freaking sweet...and genuinely tried so hard and I really just loved seeing him do his best to support Stevie...it was so sweet! Stevie, on the other hand, was a lot less awkward and definitely not broody. She was sassy, strong, and determined to make her own way. I loved that she was contradictory in many ways, but always managed to stay true to herself. :)

Stevie and Bishop were fantastic apart, but they were even better together and their romance was amazing! It was definitely a slow-burn...but boy was it worth it. I loved how their connection grew even before their romantic relationship ever started. I also loved the animosity between Stevie and Bishop at the start...I wouldn't call it hate, but there was definitely some fiery reactions going (their morning battles were hilarious...and I totally loved all of Bishop's "wardrobe choices" :P). It was clear right from the start that they had some intense chemistry! Once feelings started and things were underway...well bam! Their chemistry was phenomenal and I really loved how compatible they were...I'm honestly super excited just to get to see more of them in the next book now that they're together!!! :D

I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves slow-burn romances, especially if you love sport romances, broody, well-meaning heroes, and sassy, strong heroines!

Star Rating:

★★★★★

Overall, I loved A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR! I thought that the characters were wonderful, the romance was a fantastically sexy and well-developed slow-burn, and the story and side-characters were wonderful--I couldn't put it down! I absolutely ADORED the first book in Helena Hunting's All In series, A LIE FOR A LIE, and I loved this one, so I am ridiculously excited for the third book now, A SECRET FOR A SECRET! RJ and Bishop are amazing...and I just can't wait to see how amazing King is, too! ;D

[Review] A LIE FOR A LIE (All In, #1) by Helena Hunting

Source: Egalley through work/Canadian distributor, Thomas Allen & Son.
Publisher: Montlake Romance
Release Date: October 15, 2019
Number of Pages: 277 (Paperback)

DESCRIPTION

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series comes a romantic comedy about instant attraction, second chances, and not-so-little white lies.

Sometimes I need an escape from the demands, the puck bunnies, and the notoriety that come with being an NHL team captain. I just want to be a normal guy for a few weeks. So when I leave Chicago for some peace and quiet, the last thing I expect is for a gorgeous woman to literally fall into my lap on a flight to Alaska. Even better, she has absolutely no idea who I am.

Lainey is the perfect escape from my life. My plan for seclusion becomes a monthlong sex fest punctuated with domestic bliss. But it ends just as abruptly as it began. When I’m called away on a family emergency, I realize too late that I have no way to contact Lainey.

A year later, a chance encounter throws Lainey and me together again. But I still have a lie hanging over my head, and Lainey’s keeping secrets of her own. With more than lust at stake, the truth may be our game changer.

REVIEW

At this point, I've already read A LIE FOR A LIE twice, and both times I couldn’t put it down until I’d finished reading it. I absolutely adored this book!!! It has drama and some angst, but mostly it’s just charming and full of feel-good moments that lure you in and keep you smiling! I'm already chomping at the bit to pick it up and read it all over again--this was without a doubt my top book for 2019 and I loved it so, so much!

This Book In 5 Words:

Heart-warming. Sexy. Sweet. Riveting. Adorable.

RJ and Lainey were absolutely amazing and the romance was steamy, intense, and also so ridiculously adorable in the best possible way! I loved that it’s a spin-off of Helena’s Pucked series (but still works completely as an all-new standalone series), so it was wonderful to get to see some of our favourite Pucked characters, but I also loved meeting Lainey and getting to know our leading man, RJ, better. I'm pretty much always a fan of Helena's leading characters, but I have a serious soft spot for RJ. I love him so, so much. He was sweet, generous, loving, and gives the best safety cuddles. ;)

If you can't tell already, I basically loved everything about A LIE FOR A LIE. I loved the romance. I loved the story. I loved the way that the story itself was set up--parts of it happen in the past and I thought that Helena did an amazing job in weaving the two storylines together. I also loved the friendships, and getting to see RJ and Lainey grow closer was truly wonderful. I also really, really loved that so much of this story focused on RJ and Lainey getting to know each other, and on how their relationship evolved. We actually get to enjoy a pretty large chunk of the story where we see them bond rather than just face drama and let me tell you...it...is...so refreshing! I can't remember a time before this where you're given a chunk of a book to just savor the actual relationship part of a romance. It was spectacular! :D

I'll stop now because I could just go on and on forever about how amazing A LIE FOR A LIE was, so I'll wrap this up and I have to say that I can’t wait to see what happens next in the All In series! I’ve already read (and LOVED) the next book, A FAVOR FOR A FAVOR, and now I'm really looking forward to seeing my new faves in the final book, A SECRET FOR A SECRET!!!

Star Rating:

★★★★★

I highly recommend A LIE FOR A LIE to Helena Hunting fans, sports romance fans, and anyone who loves romances that are full of heartwarming moments that will leave you feeling like you’ve just been given safety cuddles/snuggles and a comforting cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows!

REVIEW

First Impressions...

Absolutely LOVED The Bromance Book Club! I loved Thea and I loved Gavin, and I'm definitely excited to see what else the Bromance Book Club is going to get into!!!

This Book In 5 Words:

Brotastic. Enlightening. Fun. Heartening. Dramatic.

What Did I Like:

- The whole "Bromance" Book Club aspect was amazing! I loved the book club concept and love, love, loved how the guys supported each other and turned to romance books to help them fix their marital issues and better understand their partners! Such a neat idea!

- The amazing way that feminism and equality were handled throughout the story. I absolutely LOVED how much conversation was had throughout this book. I loved that the guys actually talked things out and how they worked together and pushed each other to become better feminists. Honestly, the way the men discussed women's issues and how to better understand their partners, who in this book happened to be women, was absolutely wonderful. Gavin was a bit oblivious sometimes, but he genuinely wanted to learn and his bros totally helped him. I really loved seeing him open up to their help and push himself to understand what went wrong in his relationship with Thea. :)

- The way that Gavin and Thea worked to get to know each other and to heal their relationship. Some of the arguments and drama in this story were a bit ridiculous and not necessarily believable, but I did love that once Gavin and Thea were both committed to trying to heal their relationship that their communication did improve.

- Both Thea and Gavin had some emotional hang-ups in regards to their self-confidence, and I loved that they both accepted each other as they were. They didn't try to fix each other, but instead focused on supporting their partner which was so lovely. :)

What Didn't I Like:

- While I loved this book in general, I did find that while reading I felt like I was distanced from Thea and Gavin, and I didn't quite connect with them as well as I would've liked. I think it was a bit of a combo of the tense that the book was written in and the fact that when this book starts Gavin and Thea are already in a relationship, so we kind of missed the whole beginning of their story.

Star Rating:

★★★★.5

Overall, I loved THE BROMANCE BOOK CLUB! I loved the whole idea of the book club full of guys reading romance books in order to better understand women, and the execution of the club was even better than I'd hoped for! I really enjoyed Thea and Gavin's story despite feeling a bit distanced from them, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens with our favourite bros and book club in future books! ;)

Number of Pages: 288 (Paperback)

Now, as the strongminded, sassy CEO of one of the biggest jewelry empires in the country, Naomi finally has exactly what she wants—but it’s going to take more than just the right address to make Manhattan’s upper class stop treating her like an outsider.

The worst offender is her new neighbor, Oliver Cunningham—the grown son of the very family Naomi’s mother used to work for. Oliver used to torment Naomi when they were children, and as a ridiculously attractive adult, he’s tormenting her in entirely different ways. Now they find themselves engaged in a battle-of-wills that will either consume or destroy them…

REVIEW

Well I just absolutely loved Naomi and Oliver! This book was fun, sweet, and full of amazing banter! I loved this couple soooo much, and I didn't want their story to end! I also loved all of the friend dynamics and I'm seriously excited to read Claire and Audrey's books! :D

I think my only criticism for this one was that it didn't have the steamy aspects to the story that Lauren Layne's other books have! I'm a bit disappointed to see how often the romance books on Gallery's list have started to go the fade-to-black route. It made the sexier parts of the story fall flat because you can feel that it should be there, but it's not. Sad to see some of the steam taken out of Lauren Layne's books here...but I'm gonna end on that note before I go into a rant or I'll be on here all day.

When it comes to Passion on Park Avenue, I did really loved this book for the story...and the characters were so good! I loved Naomi and Oliver so much, and all of the side characters made me want more and more of this book! As per usual, I thoroughly enjoyed Lauren Layne's writing and thought it was fantastic, but I really do wish that the sexy side of their relationship hadn't been fade-to-black. Here's hoping that Gallery doesn't water down the sexy bits for the next two books in the series! This book gave me serious feels, but I definitely did miss the steam that I've come to love from Lauren Layne...she writes sexy books very, very well! ;)

Star Rating:

★★★★★

Read If You Like:

Sweet and sexy romances with feisty and fierce heroines and thoughtful, generous, sexy heroes! You'll also love this one if you love romances with great friend groups and if you're a fan of good banter! ;)

To Read Next:

- Lauren Layne's backlist...she's written so many FABULOUS books! I particularly love her 21 Wall Street series, and I've also been really enjoying her Oxford books as I make my way through them. :)
- R.S. Grey's books...if you like this one, I'd maybe go with The Foxe and the Hound -- I'd recommend all of her books though, her rom-coms are fabulous!

Overall, I absolutely loved Passion on Park Avenue! The romance was engaging, all of the characters were fabulous, and I really enjoyed how the story evolved! And since I loved all of the friends so much, I'm extremely excited to read the next two books in the series!

rom Helena Hunting's PUCKED OVER and PUCKED UNDER (Pucked Series)

I absolutely love Lily! She's hilarious, sassy, and I love all of her quirks and the antics she and Randy end up in! I also love how wonderful of a friend and daughter she is! She's definitely one of those characters you wish were your friend because she'd be wonderful to have on your side! 🍁⛸

✨Chloe from Christina Lauren's BEAUTIFUL BASTARD (Beautiful Bastard Series)

I love all of CLo’s characters, but I loved Chloe from the very first moment we met her! She‘s strong, sassy, and willing to do whatever it took to make sure she achieves her dreams. She doesn’t let Bennet bulldoze her and always makes sure he knows she‘s his equal. Love, love, love her!!!💼👠

✨Bree from
Mia Sheridan's ARCHER'S VOICE!

Bree is probably one of the most considerate, kind-hearted and thoughtful heroines that I have ever encountered! I love her soooo much! I want to give her a big hug and just be one of her best friends! She and Archer are perfect!!!🐾💐

--------

✨Becca from Sarina Bowen's BROOKLYNAIRE (Brooklyn Bruisers Series)

I love this series, but Becca is definitely my fave of the ladies! She runs the Brooklyn office like a tight ship! Knows everything she has to do and is always ten-steps ahead! I love how driven, determined and incredibly intelligent she is! She’s also kind, generous, and just a wonderful person! She and Nate are perfect together, too!🏒📱

[#SuperSexyGalentines] Week 1: Top 4 Sexiest Male Leads

Welcome to Week 1 of the #SuperSexyBookClub's #SuperSexyGalentines!

As I mentioned a couple of days ago, my #SuperSexyBookClub, made up of myself, Christine from Padfoot's Library, Eden from The Required Reading List, and Patty from Simply Patty are hosting a romance reading challenge for February!

This week we're sharing our Top 4 Sexiest Male Leads!

Thank you for checking out my post and joining Christine, Eden, Patty, and myself! I'm just going to dive right in!

My Top 4 Sexiest Male Leads are as follows!

 1. Vicious from L.J. Shen's VICIOUS and her Sinners of Saint Series!

I absolutely loved Vicious! I'm been smitten with him from the first time that I read VICIOUS (back in January 2017), and I still absolutely adore him! I've reread this book at least four times now, and I just grow to love him more and more! He's definitely an anti-hero and a darker character than I typically fall for, but for some reason I just adore his character. He's unforgettable, irresistible, and I absolutely adore seeing the way that he falls for his love interest, Emilia. It makes me swoon every single time!

------

2. Randy from Helena Hunting's PUCKED OVER and PUCKED UNDER from her Pucked Series!

Oh, Randy! I'd read the first book in the Pucked series ages ago, but hadn't read the rest of the series until this fall...and I got hooked! I flew through them all, but Randy and Lily were definitely my favourite couple...and Randy was by far my favourite character! I absolutely loved everything about him. He was funny, sooooo sweet, and undeniably sexy. I loved how he was described and I swooned pretty much whenever he and Lily were in the same vicinity.

------

 3. Will from Christina Lauren's BEAUTIFUL PLAYER and Beautiful Bastard Series!

Player Will! I pretty much fall hard and fast for all of Christina Lauren's guys, but from the moment I picked up Beautiful Player, Will has been my favourite! He's smart, sooooooo sexy...and I love, love, loved seeing his relationship with Hanna develop! I only let myself pick one Christina Lauren guy as a fave, so I had to sneak Finn (from DIRTY ROWDY THING) in this photo since he's my second fave. ;) Honestly I don't think they've written a male lead who I haven't found sexy yet though! ;D

------

4. Archer from Mia Sheridan's ARCHER'S VOICE!

My #SuperSexyBookClub read Archer's Voice as one of our January picks...and he was a HUGE hit! Patty has been a ginormous fan of Archer and Archer's Voice for a long time, so she was pretty happy that we all joined in on the Archer love! This book hit me right in the feels though, and I loved every single minute! Bree and Archer were so good together! I loved that Archer was so sweet and compassionate, but he was also strong, resilient, and so fierce! I loved reading about him, and I loved seeing his character grow....soooooooo good! I also loved how steamy this one was! I was kind of expecting it...but not! I also just had to include my Thor Funko (the Ragnarok version) in this photo because I thought Archer would appreciate it. ;)

Honourable Mentions:

💖Jamie from Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series (TV or books—I’ll never not love JAMMF)
💖Nick from Nicola Rendell’s SHIMMY BANG SPAKRLE
💖Michael from Helen Hoang's THE KISS QUOTIENT
💖Nate from Sarina Bowen's BROOKLYNAIRE
💖Wolfe from L.J. Shen's THE KISS THIEF

[#SuperSexyGalentines] Introduction!

Happy February fellow romance readers!

Last year, I started a brand new romance-centric book club with three of my best girlfriends: Christine from Padfoot's Library, Eden from The Required Reading List, and Patty from Simply Patty. We call it the #SuperSexyBookClub!

We've been speeding through two romances a month since we first brought our book club together, but for February we decided to do something a little different! We decided that we'd put together a challenge to share some of our favourite romances, our favourite characters, and our favourite tropes or genres...and we'd love for you to join us!

Here we go!
I'm super duper excited to introduce you to our #SuperSexyGalentines!

Our challenge is fairly simple, there are four of us, so every week we'll be sharing four of our favourites in a specific category!

What are our categories, you ask?

Well...you can find them listed on this handy graphic:

In case, you have any issues viewing the graphic, here's a text version:
  • Week 1: February 3 - 9th - Top 4 Sexiest Male Leads
  • Week 2: February 10 - 16th - Top 4 Fave Female Leads
  • Week 3: February 17 - 23rd - Top 4 Romantic Reads
  • Week 4: February 24 - 28th - Top 4 Fave Romance Tropes/Genres
As you can see we have four categories that we'll be focusing on, and we'll be sharing each during a certain week. The full challenge will run all through February. I plan to try to post on the first day of each week listed on the graphic, but that could change depending on my schedule. If you're joining in, feel free to post whenever you like. :)

If you'd like to visit our social media profiles across various platforms, you can find us at these links:
