Spring Into Summer Read-a-Thon - Day 2 Report Post

Questions and Answers:

1. First of all, give us an end-of-read-a-thon status update. Books read, pages read, you know the drill!

Total Books Read: 3
Total Pages Read: 827
Books Read Since Last Update: 1
Pages Read Since Last Update: 61
Total Time Read: 13.5 hrs, 1 hr since last update
Books Completed: The Long Weekend by Savita Kalhan, Sweetly by Jackson Pearce, and Subject Seven by James A. Moore
How I'm Currently Feeling: A bit disappointed, I would've liked to read more than three books, but oh well. I think next time I'm going to have to skip all of the Mini-Challenges and avoid any kind of technology, it just gets me too distracted and then I can't get back into reading.

2.What is your favorite book you read during the read-a-thon?

Sweetly by Jackson Pearce. :)

3. Did you participate in any mini-challenges? Which ones?

I participated in a few of them. The ones that I did were: favourite and least favourite book-to-movie adaptation, the wordle, the bookshelf one, the anagram, and the one about which book world you'd like to live in.

4. Which mini-challenge was your favorite?

My favourite was probably the one about choosing a book world to live in.

5. What has been your favorite thing about the read-a-thon?

My favourite thing was probably just knowing that you're reading a bunch while other people are reading, I love seeing people's comments about it too.

6. Are you satisfied with how much reading you got done? Did you do more than you expected? Less?

Nope, I'm not really satisfied with the amount of reading I finished. To be honest, I probably would've read more if I hadn't been doing the Read-a-Thon. I felt like I was pressured to read for some reason this Read-a-Thon, I think a large chunk of that was the fact that I had a couple random things pop up that took away time I wanted to spend reading, like having to drive to get some forms filled out, which took over an hour, and then I had to take my brother to a party, which kind of killed my reading mojo for the night...especially when he woke me up later wanting to be picked up. Plus, the last two days, I swear my attention span has been tiny, I've gotten so distracted and super easily too. I expected to read more, but not much I can do about that now. :P

7. What did you think of the updates? Too close together? Didn't like the time limit?

I didn't like that many updates, I think that was part of the reason I'd get distracted because it meant I had to get back on the computer...which lead to me checking my email, my facebook, etc. I think they were too close together to be honest. I'd just get into reading and then it'd be time for another update. I didn't really like the whole time limit either, and the whole 12 hour break thing was confusing. I ended up making my report post, thinking I had to make it right around eight. I think maybe next time just make it more clear, like you did with the update on the report post afterwards, about it being within a range, and how stopping for the night is optional.

8. If you could change one thing about the read-a-thon, what would it be?

Like I mentioned before, about fewer updates that are farther apart. Also the whole 12-hour break thing just being made more clear. I also think it would have been neat to have Mini-Challenges hosted on other blogs, and you could even find people from other countries that are willing to do giveaways and that way you could have some that are US Only, some that are International, and even others that are exclusive to the blogger's specific country. Oooh like an around the world theme, maybe someone would even want to host a bunch for their country, you never know.

9. Would you participate in another read-a-thon hosted by Squeaky Books? Why or why not? (Again, I won't cry if you say "no")

I think I would participate in another read-a-thon hosted by Squeaky Books. Although next time I'd probably skip doing most of the smaller updates and Mini-Challenges, they just distracted me from reading. I'm more of a read-without-any-interruption kind of reader.

Any last comments on the read-a-thon?

I'd like to say thanks to Enna Isilee for hosting this Read-a-thon, I may not have got as much reading done as I'd hoped, but I did have fun doing it! :)

I hope that everyone who participated in the Read-a-Thon had fun! And I hope that those of you who didn't haven't been too annoyed by my updates for it, I tried to make them less annoying by bunching them together. ;)

Happy Reading!!!

Spring Into Summer Read-a-Thon Updates and Mini-Challenges - Day 2

So, I kinda let myself sleep in a bit today. I read about an hour after my Report post last night before I called it a night, so I didn't get too much reading done last night or this morning, but I some is better than none I guess. :P

#1 ~12:00 PM
Mini-Challenge: If you had bookshelves FULL of all of your favorite books, how would you organize them?

Honestly, I'm terrible at organizing my bookshelves. I have so many that are just too different in size to be next too each other, so I usually just organize them by series and then wherever they fit best. Of course, I also have too many books to fit on my shelves now, so there are some all over my room. :P If it were a perfect type of world and all books were the same height, I'd probably organize them by my favourites, or by my favourite author. I'd still keep them with series though. I might even go crazy and try and organize them by colour. ;)

Mini-Challenge:If you could live in the world of one book, which would it be and why?

Hmmmm, that's a tough one. There are so many books worlds that I find amazing, but also at the same time they';'d be a freaky place to live in. I kind of want to say Inkheart by Corneila Funke, mostly because you could just read yourself into another story if you wanted to. :P But....I think that's a bit of a cop out, so I'm going to say either The Mortal Instruments or The Iron Fey series, any world where Jace or Ash actually exist would be so awesome. I would love to be a Shadowhunter, and I'd love to live in Meghan's world with the fey, but I have a feeling in both worlds it might not turn out the way I wanted it to. :P

Spring Into Summer Read-a-Thon - Day 1 Report Post

Here's my final report for the day, and I get to answer these questions. :)

  • First of all, give us an end-of-day status update. Books read, pages read, you know the drill!
    • Total Books Read: 2
    •  Total Pages Read: 500
    •  Books Read Since Last Update: 1
    •  Pages Read Since Last Update: 92
    •  Total Time Read: 8 hrs, 1 hr since last update
    •  How I'm Currently Feeling: Satisfied, just finished my second book. :)

  • What is the favorite thing you have read today?
      • Sweetly by Jackson Pearce ---- Absolutely loved this one! I actually liked it even more than Sisters Red. :D

  • Which mini-challenge was your favorite?

      • I liked the Wordle challenge, I've never done one before. :)

  • What has been your favorite thing about the read-a-thon?
      • I just love the idea of having an excuse to read for long periods of time. :P I also like seeing everyone else's comments about what they're doing. :)

  • What has been your LEAST favorite thing about the read-a-thon?
      • I think I'd prefer if the prizes were from the Book Depository if possible, that way everything is International, or if specific blogs sponsored the giveaways. I saw that on a Read-a-thon before and I thought it was a great idea, that way there are more chances for everyone to win, and you don't feel excluded from the giveaways. Plus you also get to check out new blogs if you haven't heard of them before. :)

  • Are you on track to meet your goals?
      • Not really, but I expected that I'd fall behind, so it's not really a surprise. I've finished two books at least, and I'm happy with that. :)

  • Will you be participating tomorrow? Do you have any new goals?
      • Yup, I sure am! None of my goals are new, but I do hope to at least get a couple of books read tomorrow. :)

  • Well that's how day 1 of the Spring Into Summer Read-a-Thon went for me, hope everyone else's went well! :D

Spring Into Summer Read-a-thon Updates and Mini-Challenges - Day 1

I'm going to just make this into one big post now.
I'll separate each update and mini-Challenge with a line. :)

    #1

Mini-Challenge: Tell about your favorite and least favorite movie adaptation of a book.
    • Favorite book-movie adaptation: Hmmmm, that's a tough one. I really enjoyed The Notebook and A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks, the movie versions were amazingly well done. :D I also just recently watched Flipped based off of the book by Wendelen Van Draaen adn I thought it was so well done. :)

    • Least favorite book-movie adaptation: I've had a fair few book to movies that I haven't really liked, or that I was 'meh' about, but I'm not sure about which one I liked the least. I absolutely hated the movie version of Inkheart though, that one was just nothing like I pictured the book at all, and they changed so many little details that I remember just being annoyed pretty much during the whole movie.

      Dewey's 24-Hour Read-a-Thon: Results Post

I ended up going to bed at about 1:30 am last night, so I stopped reading with about 7 hours left. I ultimately decided that since I have my Russian Oral final and an English final on Wednesday I needed to sleep because I won't have time to catchup in the week.

Even though I stopped early I did managed to finish:

      Coraline by Neil Gaiman

The Amazing Days of Abby Hayes: All That Glitters Isn't Gold by Anne Mazer

Love You Hate You Miss You by Elizabeth Scott

      and I started reading:

      Past Midnight by Mara Purnhagen

I hope that all of the participants had fun with the Read-a-Thon, and I'd like to say thanks to all of the other participants (readers, cheerleaders, challenge hosters) who stopped by my blog and encouraged me! Thanks everyone! :D

      Hey everybody! :D

I've decided on a few books that I want to read for the 24-Hour Read-a-Thon! I'll add more if I'm ahead in my reading too! ;) I'll keep you posted!

      So...here's my list:

      Number of Pages: 162
I've been wanting to read this one for a while and I found it super cheap on a bookstore on campus the other day and I just had to have it! I'm pretty excited to start this one. :D

      Number of Pages: 276
I love the Elizabeth Scott's books that I've already read, so I'm pretty excited to try this one out too. :D

      Number of Pages: 123
I absolutely loved this series when I was younger and it's one I still cling onto! I have every single one of the Abby Hayes books...including the bonus ones. I ♥ Abby Hayes! I always feel like an amazing reader when I read these books too because I read them so fast. ;)

      Number of Pages: 234
This book sounds hilarious! I almost read Bloodthirsty a couple months ago...but school got in the way and I put it back on the shelf...but now I'm going for it, and I am soooo psyched! :D

      Number of Pages: 216
I bought this one months ago, and I figured I could easily read it on a weekend because it's pretty short, but something has always came up...no more putting it off though, I'm reading it! :)

      Number of Pages: 290
I think I'm most excited to read Wings! I've heard amazing things, and I am so excited to start this series! :D

      ------------------------

I included the page numbers so that you guys could see how long each of these books are. You might have noticed that all of the books that I picked have lower page counts, I did that because on Dewey's FAQ page someone recommended using shorter books so you don't get bored, so I'm gonna try that out, and then maybe I'll finish with a longer one...we shall see. :)

I also included all of the books' Goodreads pages in case there were any that you guys wanted to check out. :)

Wish me luck guys...it's gonna be a long (but awesomely book-filled!) 24-hours...I'm not starting for a while though, I'm gonna get some sleep first. ;)

I'll post again once I get started! :D

In A Past Life (Read-A-Thon Challenge) from The Nerd's Wife

Here's a link to the challenge for the Read-A-Thon if you're participating: http://reading.thenerdswife.com/2010/12/in-past-life-readathon-mini-challenge.html

      So here are the questions:

Choose a character from the book you're currently reading and answer the following questions in the comments of this post.

•What historical figure do you think they could have been in a past life?
•Why did you choose this figure?
•What similarities do the two share?
•Be sure to tell us the book and the character you chose.

The book I'm currently reading is Night Star by Alyson Noel. Which, coincidentally enough is filled with past lives.

I think for the character, I'm going to choose Sabine just because we don't know of any of her past lives, Ever would've been a more obvious choice, but I think that's cheating. :P

I think in a past life Sabine was someone who was perhaps taken in by the mystical, so I'm going to say she was Alexandra Romanov of Russia. Since she was royal she would know the workings of the law, which being a lawyer Sabine, is extremely interested in. She also does not approve of or 'believe' in psychic abilities or other spiritual stuff like that, which would suggest that she's been spurned by it in the past...or past life.

If you're doing the Read-a-thon, don't miss out on the mini-challenges, the link to this one is at the top of this post :)

      Halloween Read-A-Thon Results!!!!

Ok, so I started strong with the Read-a-thon, finishing The Body Finder before I started my new picks for the weekend, then I had class so that put a damper on my reading.

Even with class, I managed to start and finish I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore on Friday.

I LOVED this book. I'm not sure yet, but I'll probably end up writing a review for it. I'll still tell you a little bit about it. This book was full of action, suspense, some mystery, and even some love, which to be honest, I definitely was not expecting. I've been wanting to read this book for a while now, and I'm so glad that I did, especially since I want to see the movie when it goes into theatres in February. :)

Just for fun, here's the official trailer for I Am Number Four:

Late Friday night, or should I say very early Saturday morning I started Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce. I finished it later in the day.

I came across this story over the summer when I was in BC. I was chatting books with the one girl that worked at Chapters because Linger had just come out, and she recommended this book to me. I thought why not, let's give it a try. I'm not sure what I was expecting. I knew it was a twist on the story of Little Red Riding Hood, and that they hunted wolves, but that was about all I knew. So I decided the Read-a-thon would be a perfect time to read it. I liked this book, it was unique and definitely an interesting read. It's told in the alternating perspectives of two sisters, and personally, I wasn't as interested during Scarlett's chapters, but I still really liked it. Overall it was an awesome book. :)

After finishing Sisters Red on Saturday, I quickly started Paranormalcy. I only took one break, and that was to finish watching My Fair Lady with my mom. :) I finished it late late Saturday night or very early Sunday morning...as you can see, sleep was very slim this weekend. :P

I LOVED Paranormalcy! This is probably one of the most unique paranormal stories I've ever read. It was fresh, while still having familiar races of paranormals within the story, and because Evie didn't know her own origin, we the readers, got to go with her on the ride of self discovery. I totally loved Lend too! :) Amazing story, this one is definitely a must read!

I didn't finish this one, but I did start it, and I'm about halfway through it right now. I started it on Sunday, and I should be finished pretty soon. I had a quiz this morning, and a family dinner last night at my Aunt and Uncle's house, so there wasn't too much spare time for reading unfortunately. I'm loving this book so far though, it's definitely one that you don't want to put down unless forced.

And finally, The Iron Daughter. Well, since I didn't finish  The Iron King, I haven't started this one yet, but boy am I excited to! I just wanted to share this cover and goodreads link in case anyone was curious. :)

Well that wraps up my Post-Halloween Read-a-thon Blog post!!! I had an amazing time participating, and am definitely looking forward to participating in more Read-a-thons in the future!

      Spookiest Read for Halloween Read-A-Thon!!!

If you're participating in the Halloween Read-A-Thon over at Young Adult Books Reviewed, you can find all of the mini-challenges here: http://yabreviewed.blogspot.com/2010/10/welcome-to-halloween-read-thon.html

This blog post is for the reading challenge over at YA Addict's Blog!

She asked participants to blog about their spookiest read!

Okay, so my spookiest read ever was:

      ...I'm totally kidding. :P

Seriously though, the spookiest book I probably ever read was Night by Elie Wiesel. It wasn't spooky in the traditional sense of ghosts go bump in the night and all that. To me it was spooky because it was real. Those horrendous things happened to real people, and that really got to me.

Spookiness aside, it was an amazing story, and don't tell my high school English teacher this....but I actually really enjoyed reading it.

      Happy Reading and Do Svidanya!!!

      Halloween Read-A-Thon!!! My Choices :)

Okay, now I feel kind of silly. I totally signed up for the Halloween Read-A-Thon over at Young Adult Books Reviewed blog (Link Here)...and I totally forgot about it. In fact, if I hadn't stumbled upon it today, the day before it takes place I would've totally missed it. Thankfully I did though! :D

Anyways, so for the Read-A-Thon from Oct.15 to Oct.17 I'm going to read as Halloween themed books as I can! I'll try and keep my twitter posted with my status on the books I'm reading. :)

Anyways, so my choices for the Read-A-Thon are gonna be:

I Am Number 4 by Pittacus Lore
      Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce
      Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
      Iron King by Julie Kagawa
      Iron Daughter by Julia Kagawa

I'm almost finished reading The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting right now, so I'll start on these books after that one, hopefully I can finish at least a couple of them. I figure it's better to shoot big and go home than it is to underestimate myself though. ;)

Anyways, feel free to participate in the Read-A-Thon even if you aren't signed up for it, it is for fun afterall.
I'm pretty excited for this, and I hope to see you all there! :D

      Happy Reading and Do Svidanya!!!
