Blog Tour Review: Addicted To You (Addicted #1) by Krista Ritchie & Becca Ritchie

Addicted to You (Addicted #1)
Release Date: 07/01/13

Summary from Goodreads:
No one would suspect shy Lily Calloway’s biggest secret. While everyone is dancing at college bars, Lily stays in the bathroom. To get laid. Her compulsion leads her to one-night stands, steamy hookups and events she shamefully regrets. The only person who knows her secret happens to have one of his own.

Loren Hale’s best friend is his bottle of bourbon. Lily comes at a close second. For three years, they’ve pretended to be in a real relationship, hiding their addictions from their families. They’ve mastered the art of concealing flasks and random guys that filter in and out of their apartment.

But when they go on a family boat trip, surrounded by open seas and limited male bodies in sight, Lily’s confronted with a big fear. Only one guy onboard can fill her addiction, and she’s sworn off going there with Loren Hale ever again.

Now the only person who can truly help her can barely help himself.

About the Authors

Becca Ritchie is a carnivore of pop culture, television, film and of course YA and NA books. While in college, she worked at The CW television network and put her vampiric knowledge to good use, blogging about hit series and swooning over actors’ abs. When she’s not blogging, she writes novels and has teamed up with her twin sister for their New Adult novel ADDICTED TO YOU. Available July of 2013.

Krista Ritchie is the mind behind popular trading website YA Book Exchange and created Nawanda Files, a book blog that also features books into movies news. When not pouring over entertainment news and the newest releases, she spends her time conducting research in a genetics lab. She’s happy to join forces with her sister, harnessing their twin powers to produce the first in a New Adult series.

MY REVIEW

As soon as I read the description, I could tell that Addicted to You was going to be an intense read...I mean how can it not be when it's pretty much all about addiction? I loved the intensity of the story, and I liked getting to see such a raw perspective on addiction (or it seemed real to me...we really see both Lo and Lily hit some major lows!), but, I also found it to be intensely emotional, and I was quickly wrapped up in Lily's life. I absolutely loved Addicted to You!

While Lily and Lo both hit some low spots and showed their bad sides to the reader, I still really liked them as characters. Lo was sexy, charming, funny, and I loved how much he cared for Lily! I also really liked Lily. She was so embarrassed by her addiction, and it did get the best of her at times, but I thought that her narrative was very honest, and it felt like she didn't hide anything from the reader, which I really liked. She was so hard on herself, and felt so guilty about her desires and how sex basically controlled her life...and I just felt so compassionate towards her, and I wanted her to be able to overcome it all. I really felt for her even though my situation is nothing like hers. Krista and Becca Ritchie have created incredibly flawed characters, but you still can't help wanting to get to know them better.

Addicted to You is a character-driven story, and I'm a fan of plots based on character, so I loved that aspect of the story. I couldn't put it down at all. I enjoy light fluffy reads, but I do like to read stories that wrench at my heartstrings, too, and that's exactly what Addicted to You did! It made me laugh, smile, blush (just like Lily did :P haha), and it definitely made me cry...at one point I was pretty much constantly sobbing, but I liked it...in that weird, masochistic way that us book lovers do. ;)

Overall, Addicted to You was fantastic! The characters were wonderful and their open flaws made me like them even more. I enjoyed that while Lily and Lo kept most people at arm's length, the reader is able get to know them better, and can see the great people underneath their addictions. I loved Addicted to You for many reasons---the characters, the story, the writing, and the fact that it was so honest and open towards the addiction aspect of the story. I really appreciated the realism of the story, and I liked seeing the characters as more than just their addictions. I would recommend Addicted to You to those who like contemporary stories that are a little more mature (it does have adult content since the characters are addicted to sex and alcohol), and I'd also recommend it to those who enjoy stories that aren't light and fluffy, and have a little more depth to them.
