It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, is a bookish meme hosted by One Person's Journey Through a World of Books, where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It’s a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list. So hop on over to Journey and join in...and leave a comment here so I can check out what you are reading.
Books I Read Last Week:
So, if you couldn't already tell...I did end up getting a copy of this book, it came a bit later than I was expecting, but at least it came. :P I actually enjoyed this one. It definitely isn't a happy story, but it is a story that makes you feel. It also brings some terrible truths to your attention, which is always an eye-opening experience. I definitely learned some things about the Japanese Internment in Canada that I didn't know before, and I definitely wasn't proud to learn them. It always makes me sad to think that we have all these rights and freedoms, and then with a few manipulations of our own laws, the government is allowed to just take everything away from a group of people...it definitely makes you question the whole concept of "democracy." Well...I'm going to end this little rant about the mistreatment of my fellow Canadians here, but I think that this book is a great way to let yourself become exposed to some truths that the government isn't always so forthcoming with.
Well compared to Obasan, Crossed was a very happy read. :P I was thrilled to get Crossed from Penguin Canada, and I started reading it as soon as it was in my hands, and I loved it! I'm seriously waiting in anticipation for book 3 now! I simply CANNOT wait! I loved Cassia in this one, and I loved how she was beginning to define things by herself, rather than the way the Society would have told her to do something. :D I'll be working on my review for this one, I'm not sure when I'll post it though. :)
This was another one that I absolutely loved! Zoe told me to hurry up and read this one, so I did, I hurried my butt and devoured it Saturday night/Sunday morning, and I'm not a fan of being tired from lack of sleep, but boy was this book ever worth it! :D Seriously, it's amazing, read it now! I'm going to try and get a review written for this one sometime soon, too, since I plan on finally reading the Prized egalley I have from NetGalley and I want to review both. :)

Reading Now:
I'm actually just starting this one now that I finished Birthmarked, and I'm so excited! I've read the first couple paragraphs, but that's about it...and now I feel like I've tortured myself with anticipation! I loved all 3 of these authors books separately, so I can't wait for more from them! :D
Books I Want to Read This Week:
As I mentioned before, I have this egalley sitting on my Kindle right now...and I can't wait to dig into this book! Seriously, I'm psyched! :D haha
This one's for class, and I need to read it pretty soon, so I hope to finish it this week. It isn't too long, but my professor did say that it's a tough read...fingers crossed that it isn't too bad! :)
And what are you reading???

I need to remember to pick up Birthmarked when I go out shopping. I am very curious to read that. I have Matched on my shelf and still haven't gotten around to it yet. All in good time, I suppose. :) Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooo jealous you've read Crossed already!!! Glad you enjoyed it! I can't wait to read it myself :)
ReplyDelete@Kathy Ann Coleman: It's fantastic! I hope you like it! :D That's my thoughts exactly when it comes to the books on my shelf...I'll get to them, it just may take a while! haha You too! :D
ReplyDelete@Chrissie (Once Upon a Series): Awe, sorry for making you jealous, but at least you won't have to wait too much longer, its release date is getting closer. :D I hope you like it when you get your hands on a copy! :D
Enjoy your books. What is keeping me from finishing the books I have going? A new kitten! Come see what I'm reading.
ReplyDeleteI'm really going to laugh if you read Prized before me considering I've had a hard copy for like two months and read Birthmarked a year ago and have been excited about the sequel since then! I suppose my total lack of much reading lately hasn't helped the cause but I hope to get to it next week. I'm intrigued by your book cover for your class, I like the bird. hope it's not too difficult to read!
ReplyDeleteand of course SO glad you loved Birthmarked :D
@Zoe: I'll laugh, too! It'll be me prodding you to read Prized then, like you were telling me to read Birthmarked! haha You'll just have to pick it up next! lol :) It is a neat cover, the other one on goodreads kind of was freaky, but this is the one on the edition that we're using. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad too! I'm gonna have to get myself a copy one of these days now, just so I have it! haha
yikes that other one is pretty creepy! I'm glad you got the cheerful edition haha.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I think I would've been physically scared of my book if I had the other one. lol
