I don't know about you all, but I abso-freaking-lutely LOVE Glee, so I am very excited about this news! Chris Colfer, also known as Kurt Hummel on Glee, got a book deal with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

Colfer’s Two Book Deal Begins with THE LAND OF STORIES to be published in Summer 2012
New York, NY [June 8, 2011] – Award-winning actor, Chris Colfer, will publish two books with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, it was announced today by Megan Tingley, the division’s Senior Vice President and Publisher. Written for 8-12 year old readers, The Land of Stories will be simultaneously released in hardcover and e-book in the summer of 2012, and will be followed by a second untitled novel. The acquisition for world rights was made by Andrew Smith, Vice President and Deputy Publisher and Alvina Ling, Editorial Director, with Rob Weisbach of Rob Weisbach Creative Management acting on behalf of Colfer. The Land of Stories will be edited by Alvina Ling. Known for his role as “Kurt Hummel” on the critically acclaimed television series, Glee, Colfer is also a screenwriter who recently penned a pilot for the Disney Channel as well as the independent feature Struck by Lightning.
A fast-paced adventure that uniquely combines our modern day world with the enchanting realm of classic fairytales, The Land of Stories tells the tale of twins Alex and Conner Bailey. Through the mysterious powers of a cherished book of stories, Alex and Conner leave their world behind and find themselves in a foreign land full of wonder and magic where they come face-to-face with the characters they grew up reading about.
"When I was ten years old, I promised myself that if I ever had the opportunity to write this book, I would jump at the chance,” said Colfer. “This book has been at the core of my imagination for a long time and I’m excited and nervous to share it.”

Chris Colfer recently wrapped the second season of the critically acclaimed, Golden Globe and SAG award winning comedy Glee, and will reprise his starring role as 'Kurt Hummel,' in the fall for the series’ third season. Colfer was recently recognized for his work on the series with a Golden Globe award in the “Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television” category. Colfer was also honored as a member of the 2011 TIME 100, Time Magazine's annual list of the one hundred most influential people in the world. I'm not a fan of Glee, but if it's not ghostwritten (which it doesn't seem to be) and the writing looks good, I'll probably give it a shot! I do love middle grade fantasy.
ReplyDeleteYa, it definitely sounds like he's writing it himself, and I had no idea he was a screenwriter before this press release. I like middle grade fantasy too, and this one sounds like it'll be a good one. :)
