[Blog Tour Review] A CO-WORKER'S CRUSH (The Rooftop Crew #6) by Piper Rayne

Source: Received an egalley to give an honest review.
Also purchased Kindle copy on Amazon CA.
Release Date: January 5, 2020
Number of Pages: 250 (ebook)

DESCRIPTION

It took me a long time to realize I shouldn’t date the women I work with. It cost me three tattoo guns, a job, five motorcycle tires, and I’m not even counting the t-shirts I never got back.

It feels different with Frankie but she comes with a little daughter and a crap load of other baggage.

I’m not the guy you take home to your parents, let alone your child. Even with everything against us, I can’t help but think maybe it could work out–then I remember who I am.

REVIEW

Awww this was such a sweet and sexy finish to the series! I’ve loved seeing Frankie and Jax banter and antagonize each other in the previous books, but seeing them fall in love was even better!!!

As always, I loved seeing our fave couples in their friend group make their appearances in this book. I really do think that Piper and Rayne excel at flushing out friendships and family dynamics in their stories, and A Co-Worker's Crush shows that perfectly--their group just fits together so, so well, and I really love when friends become found families. :)

I loved getting to know Frankie and Jax better in this one. We've gotten to learn quite a bit about Jax's past in the previous books, but I loved getting inside his head, and Frankie has always kept her distance from the group a bit, so I loved getting to see more of her. She's fierce, strong, and she's one of those people you definitely want on your side--so is Jax for that matter. I also absolutely adored Frankie’s little girl, Jolie! And now that we got to see more of Frankie and Jolie, I also really loved Jolie’s grandma, Sandy. She was so sweet and supportive, and it reminded me of all of the memories I'm grateful for having with my own grandmas. :) I also love seeing Jax with Jolie...sooooo many sweet moments in this one, and that's all I'll say because I think you'll want to experience them yourselves. ;)

Overall, I absolutely adored A Co-Worker's Crush! It’s bittersweet to have this series coming to an end, but I love that this was the story it finished on—much like Frankie, Jax drove me crazy when he first appeared, but he definitely won me over. ;) The tension between this couple has been building so long, and I loved seeing it all come together! This book can definitely be read as a standalone, but I do think you're missing out on some excellent banter and tension from previous books if you start with this one first. ;P I'd recommend A Co-Worker's Crush and the rest of The Rooftop Crew series to readers who love contemporary companion series that are sweet, sexy, funny, and feature amazing friendships and wonderful relationships! ;)

[Blog Tour Review] THE DO-OVER (The Rooftop Crew #5) by Piper Rayne

Source: Received an egalley to give an honest review.

Release Date: December 1, 2020
Number of Pages: 237 (ebook)

DESCRIPTION

She was always the one.
Or so I thought.
Turns out my instincts were dead wrong.

Years ago I was faced with the choice between two women. Both were perfect in opposite ways. One was carefree and against commitment. The other was a woman you’d bring home to mom.

I was young, naïve and stupid. I’m sure you can guess who I chose.

Now, I’m older, wiser and know what the hell I want.

So, when the same two women pop back into my life it’s my chance for a do-over. But they flipped the script. Just like me, they want different things now. Leaving me with one choice—convince the woman I want that she wants me too.

REVIEW

Oh boy, this was one dramatic read! I've really come to love the variety in Piper and Rayne's Rooftop Crew series--they've been doing a great job with keeping the tropes fresh and the stories are all super different from one another. Most of all, I absolutely adore their friend group! I've been eager to read Knox's story for a while since he's been the quiet, mysterious one in the group up until now, and we definitely got to see some depth underneath his uniform. ;)

Part of the fun of this book is that the heroine is a bit of a mystery...is it Knox's ex...is it someone else? He's getting a do-over...but until you start reading you're not going to know who. ;)

Since I'm trying to keep Knox's love a mystery...I'm going to keep this rather brief and say that I loved her! I loved getting to know her, loved how she and Knox grew closer and fell in love, and I really loved seeing how she fit into their friend group. Knox's parents were also super precious and I loved them, too. When it comes to Piper and Rayne's books, I'm always a sucker for the friend groups, and the family moments, and all of those lovely dynamics, and this one did it super well.

Overall, I thought that THE DO-OVER was great! It was sexy, sweet, and I loved seeing Knox and his mystery lady fall in love! I was a little bit conflicted going into this one because Knox is a cop, and with everything that's gone on this year I honestly do feel a bit iffy reading romances where the heroes (or even the heroines) are police. That did kind of damper my excitement for this one, but all in all, I did enjoy it. A few other little things kept me from absolutely loving this one, namely Dylan's behaviour during parts of it and a tad too much drama for my personal taste, but it was an exciting, fun read and I definitely recommend it to contemporary romance fans who like second-chance stories, especially if you like them to have some twists and turns along the way.

I' haven't been blogging very often lately, but I'm back today with a cover reveal for one of my favourite romance author duos, Piper Rayne!

A CO-WORKER'S CRUSH
By Piper Rayne
Release Day January 5, 2021

Three tattoo guns.
Five motorcycle tires.
Countless T-shirts.

That’s what I lost before I realized nothing good comes from dating my co-workers.

Usually, I don’t have much self-control. So, the fact that Frankie Grant is a hot, talented tattoo artist means it’s a damn miracle she hasn’t already been in my bed. But nothing can happen between us because Frankie comes with Jolie, her young daughter, and a crap load of baggage from her ex. And those are two things I never entertain.

Anyone who knows me—the screwed up foster kid from the wrong side of the tracks—knows I’m not the guy you take home to meet your parents, let alone your kid. But I also know what it’s like not to have parents, so things get complicated when Jolie asks me to be her daddy.

I might as well just slash my own tires now.

If you've read any of the books in this series yet, you may or may not have met the two main characters for this book, Jax and Frankie...but trust me when you do meet them, either in this book or in one of the previous books in The Rooftop Crew series, you will definitely feel the intense tension between these two characters! They've got a lot of bickering and bantering going on all the time...I'm not sure if I'd call it hate per se, but boy is it close! I'm definitely eager to see their relationship ship though because beneath all of their antagonism these two definitely have some serious chemistry!

As for the cover, I love it so much! I liked the first three covers in this series, but I have to admit that the last three have been even better! They're so vibrant and colourful and I looooove it! :D

[Blog Tour Review] OUR STAR-CROSSED KISS (The Rooftop Crew #4) by Piper Rayne

Source: Received an egalley to give an honest review.
Also purchased Kindle copy on Amazon CA.
Release Date: October 13, 2020
Number of Pages: 271 (ebook)

DESCRIPTION

She’s got two strikes against her.
Her name is Erickson and her parents own The Bagel Place.

It wasn’t always that way. When we were nine, we were best friends. But then a feud between our dads ripped their successful business apart—and my best friend was ripped away too.

Our paths were bound to cross again. When both our families vie for the same spot on a Food Channel’s reality show, the producers decide to change the format, aligning us as allies.

In order to get our parents to agree to work together, Evan asks me to pretend to be her boyfriend, but I dare her to up the ante—be my fiancée. Fake fiancée… obviously.

As usual, I didn’t think things through. Turns out our parents have a lot of demands neither one of us expected. And all those demands lead to things feeling more real than fake.

REVIEW

Ever since we were first introduced to Seth and Evan in the earlier books of The Rooftop Crew series, I've been so, so eager to get their story! I loved the idea of a forbidden love between two former childhood best friends torn apart when their family bagel businesses drove them to become reluctant rivals! I've also loved both Seth and Evan from the moment that they were each introduced in the previous books...and the little hints that they both might have some hidden romantic feelings all along have had me hooked forever, so getting to read their story in OUR STAR-CROSSED KISS was absolutely wonderful, and I loved it so much! :D

First, I thought that Seth and Evan were fantastic! I loved them apart--Seth is hilarious and I loved learning about his photography more, and Evan was so strong, and I loved getting to see more of her beyond just the family business! Their banter and snark was absolutely fabulous, as was their chemistry! I loved that we got to see a friendship reconnect...and I really loved seeing their relationship evolve into more, and it was wonderful seeing them fit as a couple into their group of friends, too! I also loved that we got to see quite a bit of family-time in this one since both Seth and Evan were close to their families...and I'm especially glad that we got lots of Mrs. Andrews (Seth's mom) because she always makes me laugh whenever she makes an appearance! :D

Overall, I thought that OUR STAR-CROSSED KISS was sweet, sexy, funny, and an absolute joy to read! I loved seeing Seth and Evan go from rivals to friends/allies to lovers, and I loved every moment of their story so, so much!

Our paths were bound to cross again. Now, both our families are vying for the same spot on a Food Channel's reality show. Soon, the hatred between us becomes indifference and then our friendship grows like our time apart was only hours instead of years.

So when Evan asks me to pretend to be her boyfriend, I naively assume it's to repair the rift between our families. but I wasn't only wrong, I was dead wrong. That glimpse of a future I saw with her is ripped away again just like when we were young.

The difference is, now I'm all grown up, and I fight for what I want.

I’ve loved him from afar.

Though most times he’s only a foot away.

I’m smart enough to know he’ll never be anyone’s forever.

He checks all the bad boy boxes. Tattoos. Check. Motorcycle. Check. Chip on his shoulder. Check check.

If he wasn’t my neighbor and friend I may have thrown myself at him. Okay, yeah. I wouldn’t. Because guys like Dylan don’t want a woman who writes kid’s math textbooks under him in bed. Instead, I pathetically savor morsels of moments where I have his sole attention.

That was until his archenemy moved in with me. Now suddenly, Dylan’s moving in too and warning off the first guy in a long time who’s showing me interest. Could he finally see me as more than a friend, or am I just a prize to win and show off to his enemy?

REVIEW

I’ve had mixed feelings about the first two books in this series. I really liked the first one, My Bestie's Ex, and liked the second, A Royal Mistake, but didn’t love either of them. Honestly I think my issue with this series has been Sierra so far...she's the heroine of the second book and the aforementioned “bestie” in the first book. I really love all of the other characters, but I’m very "meh" over her. Thankfully, she had a much smaller role in The Rival Roomies, and I looooved it!!! This is a quintessential best friends to lovers romance and it was absolutely wonderful! Dylan and Rian were fabulous and I loved their story so much!

Along with loving the romance in this one, I really loved both characters! We got to see snippets of Dylan and Rian in the two previous books, but we definitely didn't know them too well yet. I loved getting to know them in this one! Before this we pretty much just knew that Dylan was a tattoo artist who owned his own shop and that he was pretty private about his past, and we knew that Rian wrote math textbooks as her job, and loved to bake...often things that she knew Dylan would love...because you guessed it!...she'd been in love with Dylan for years, which everyone "except" for Dylan seemed to already know. It was definitely an interesting setup and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I'm not always a huge fan of best friends to lovers because sometimes I feel like you don't get to see the falling in love part of the story, and it can sometimes feel like you're just supposed to imagine the feelings already there, but that totally wasn't the case here. I definitely felt the love! I'd really enjoyed their interactions in the first two books, so I loved finally getting to know both characters better and I loved seeing their relationship grow!

Overall, I thought that THE RIVAL ROOMIES was amazing, and I absolutely loved it! I loved seeing the friendship between Dylan and Rian...and I thoroughly loved getting to see it blossom into more! I'm also really loving the friend group in The Rooftop Crew series, so I'm thrilled that we still have three more books to go! ;) I'd recommend this one if you love rom-coms, especially if you're a fan of the best friends to lovers trope! I think this is my absolute favourite iteration of that trope in years!!!
