Cover Catch-Up (37): Upcoming Summer Romances!

In "Cover Catch-Up" I share some covers that have either been recently revealed, or that I've just found and really wanted to share.

Well, it's been a while since I've done one of these, but I think I'd like to bring them back...so this week I'm going to pick a couple of my most anticipated romance releases that have had recent cover reveals!

MAKING UP (Shacking Up, #4)
by Helena Hunting
Publisher: Swerve
Release Date: July 16, 2019

Description:

A new standalone, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy by New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting.

Cosy Felton is great at her job—she knows just how to handle the awkwardness that comes with working at an adult toy store. So when the hottest guy she’s ever seen walks into the shop looking completely overwhelmed, she’s more than happy to turn on the charm and help him purchase all of the items on his list.

Griffin Mills is using his business trip in Las Vegas as a chance to escape the broken pieces of his life in New York City. The last thing he wants is to be put in charge of buying gag gifts for his friend’s bachelor party. Despite being totally out of his element, and mortified by the whole experience, Griffin is pleasantly surprised when he finds himself attracted to the sales girl that helped him.

As skeptical as Cosy may be of Griffin’s motivations, there’s something about him that intrigues her. But sometimes what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas and when real life gets in the way, all bets are off. Filled with hilariously awkward situations and enough sexual chemistry to power Sin City, Making Up is the next standalone in the Shacking Up world.

I'm a HUGE Helena Hunting fan, and I've been loving her Shacking Up series! I can't wait to get this story since I loved Griffin's brothers, Bane and Lex! ;)

PLAYING FOR KEEPS (Hot Jocks, #1)
 by Kendall Ryan
Release Date: August 13, 2019

Description:

I've never been so stupid in my entire life.

Elise Parrish, my teammate's incredibly sweet and gorgeous younger sister, should have been off-limits, but my hockey stick didn't get the memo.

After our team won the championship, our flirting turned physical, and I took her to bed. Then shame sent her running the next morning from our catastrophic mistake.

She thinks I don't remember that night - but every detail is burned into my brain so deeply, I'll never forget. The feel of her in my arms, the soft whimpers of pleasure I coaxed from her perfect lips....

And now I've spent three months trying to get her out of my head, but I'm starting to understand she's the only girl I'll ever want.

I have one shot to show her I can be exactly what she needs, but Elise won't be easily convinced.

That's okay, because I'm good under pressure, and this time, I'm playing for keeps.

Get ready to meet your new favorite hot jocks in an all new stand-alone novel. If you like sexy, confident men who know how to handle a stick (on and off the ice), and smart women who are strong enough to keep all those big egos in check, this series of athlete romances is perfect for you!

Yet another author that I'm a bigtime fan of! I'm also a sucker for sports romances, so sign me up immediately for one written by Kendall Ryan! ;)

Cover Catch-Up (36): Lushly Imaginative!

In "Cover Catch-Up" I share some covers that have either been recently revealed, or that I've just found and really wanted to share.

Today I have a couple of covers for books that feature worlds slightly similar to our own, but with a bit of a twist...and I'm also extremely excited to read both books!

The first book that I have is for the North American version of THE HUSH by Skye Melki-Wegner!

THE HUSH by Skye Melki-Wegner
Publisher: Sky Pony Press
Release Date: June 6, 2017

Description:

Chester has taken to the road, traveling from village to village desperately searching for his father, who has disappeared. One night while fiddling to earn a few coins, he accidentally connects to the Song—the music that fuels every aspect of the world, and that it’s illegal for him to interact with. He’s caught and sentenced to death for his crime. Only a licensed Songshaper can bend music to his will.

But someone in the crowd—a member of the infamous Nightfall Gang—stages a daring rescue and whisks Chester into the Hush, a shadowy nightmare mirror-world where Music can be deadly and Echoes can kill.

Susanna, the Captain of the Nightfall Gang has been watching Chester. She needs him to pull off an elaborate plan that will take down the governing body that keeps her an outlaw and made her the fragment she is. Susanna needs him to exact her revenge, even if he dies doing it.

Combining complex stakes, shifting loyalties, nods to fairy tales, and a Western feel, The Hush is a lush and exhilarating fantasy perfect for fans of Catherine Fisher’s Incarceron and Paolo Bacigalupi’s Ship Breaker.

I absolutely LOVE this cover!!! It's both simple and complex all at the same time, and I think it's breathtaking! The violin is stunning, and I love how it looks like it's being broken apart...and with the music notes coming out of the neck of the violin, it looks like it's either breaking apart into song or that the song is breaking it apart which seems PERFECT for the description! I also love the water, and the reflection, and the textured background...gah, it seriously is just so pretty!!! I can't wait to read THE HUSH, and I can't WAIT to see this stunning cover in person!

The second cover that I have today is for THE SHADOW CIPHER, book one in the York series by Laura Ruby!

THE SHADOW CIPHER (York #1) Laura Ruby
Publisher: Walden Pond Press
Release Date: May 16, 2017

Description:

It was 1798 when the Morningstarr twins arrived in New York with a vision for a magnificent city: towering skyscrapers, dazzling machines, and winding train lines, all running on technology no one had ever seen before. Fifty-seven years later, the enigmatic architects disappeared, leaving behind for the people of New York the Old York Cipher—a puzzle laid into the shining city they constructed, at the end of which was promised a treasure beyond all imagining. By the present day, however, the puzzle has never been solved, and the greatest mystery of the modern world is little more than a tourist attraction.

Tess and Theo Biedermann and their friend Jaime Cruz live in a Morningstarr apartment house—until a real estate developer announces that the city has agreed to sell him the five remaining Morningstarr buildings. Their likely destruction means the end of a dream long-held by the people of New York. And if Tess, Theo and Jaime want to save their home, they have to prove that the Old York Cipher is real. Which means they have to solve it.

From National Book Award Finalist Laura Ruby comes a visionary epic set in a New York City at once familiar and wholly unexpected.

Ah, this is another that I came across and just couldn't stop staring at! I absolutely LOVE how the buildings spell out YORK! It's so gorgeous, and the lighting and composition of the cityscape is breathtaking! It looks like a picturesque photo that someone would take, and I love that you get the peek of the main characters in the corner of the cover, too. I really think this cover is so pretty, but I have to admit that I don't quite understand why the series title has such a prominent placement while the book title itself, THE LOST CIPHER, is super tiny. Nonetheless, I think it's gorgeous...and I want to see those buildings in person!

Mehmed wants control of the city, and Radu has earned an unwanted place as a double-crossing spy behind enemy lines. Radu longs for his sister’s fierce confidence—but for the first time in his life, he rejects her unexpected plea for help. I absolutely LOVED AND I DARKEN, and I can't wait to read this sequel! I'm sure NOW I RISE will be just as intense and fantastic as the first, and I love this cover! It's simple, and matches perfectly with the first book! I can't wait to get a copy of this stunning book in my hands! :)

Today I have two covers for sequels that I think are absolutely fantastic, and I'm desperately and eagerly waiting for them both!

The first cover that I have to share today is for A CONJURING OF LIGHT, the final book in V. E. Schwab's SHADES OF MAGIC trilogy!!!

The direct sequel to A Gathering of Shadows, and the final book in the Shades of Magic epic fantasy series, A Conjuring of Light sees Schwab reach a thrilling culmination concerning the fate of beloved protagonists—and old enemies.

A GATHERING OF SHADOWS was pretty much my top read of 2016, so it should come as no shock that I'm eagerly awaiting A CONJURING OF LIGHT...and I think the cover is fantastic! The covers in this series are so well matched, and they show a really interesting progression as the story continues, too! I absolutely CANNOT wait to get this book in my hands, and I just know that this cover is going to be just as fabulous in person!

The second cover that I have today is for the Canadian version of A DARKNESS ABSOLUTE, the sequel to Kelley Armstrong's CITY OF THE LOST!

A DARKNESS ABSOLUTE (Casey Duncan #2) by Kelley Armstrong
Publisher: Random House of Canada
Release Date: February 7, 2017

Description:
People disappear to Rockton so no-one can find them. But the trouble is people also disappear from Rockton. New York Times and Globe and Mail bestselling author and master of thrills Kelley Armstrong returns to Rockton for more page-turning suspense, following her #1 national bestseller, City of the Lost.

It's winter in Rockton, a little town hidden deep in the wilds of the Yukon. The town exists for people who need to escape their pasts, though it's not clear if those in hiding are victims or perpetrators. Or, when the lines gets blurred, maybe both. Ask Casey. She's been used, betrayed, beaten. But she's also killed someone. She moved to Rockton to help her best friend, Diana. Ex-best friend. Diana lied to get Casey to come with her; she used her and she almost got her killed. But Casey decided to stay anyway, to work as a detective alongside her new boyfriend and the town's sheriff, Eric Dalton. Fresh off solving a series of grisly murders, Casey and Deputy Will Anders get stranded in a blizzard while they're tracking a runner from the town. Seeking shelter in a cave, they stumble across a woman who's been imprisoned in a deep well. Nicole Chavez--whom everybody thought had run away from town and died in the woods more than a year earlier--is alive. Barely. But she can't identify her captor: she's never seen his face.
Was she taken by one of the hostiles who inhabit the wilderness around the town? Or is Casey facing something even worse? In a town where everyone lies about their past and lives under assumed identities, it's very easy to hide your true nature...

CITY OF THE LOST was another one of my favourite reads in 2016, so I can't wait to dig into A DARKNESS ABSOLUTE! I'm extremely excited for more of Casey and Dalton, and I really, really love this cover! It matches so well with CITY OF THE LOST (cover to the right). I love how they both have the trees, and the animal silhouettes. I think they're so intriguing, and I just know that A DARKNESS ABSOLUTE will be just as gorgeous in person as CITY OF THE LOST is!

What do you think?
Are you a fan of these two covers?
And who else is ridiculously excited for these books?

But when her sister Käthe is taken by the goblins, Liesl journeys to their realm to rescue her sister and return her to the world above. The Goblin King agrees to let Käthe go—for a price. The life of a maiden must be given to the land, in accordance with the old laws. A life for a life, he says. Without sacrifice, nothing good can grow. Without death, there can be no rebirth. In exchange for her sister’s freedom, Liesl offers her hand in marriage to the Goblin King. He accepts.

Down in the Underground, Liesl discovers that the Goblin King still inspires her—musically, physically, emotionally. Yet even as her talent blossoms, Liesl’s life is slowly fading away, the price she paid for becoming the Goblin King’s bride. As the two of them grow closer, they must learn just what it is they are each willing to sacrifice: her life, her music, or the end of the world.
Goblins!!! Gah, I've had a soft spot for stories involving goblins ever since I read Kiersten Hamilton's Goblin Wars Trilogy (here's my review for the first book, Tyger Tyger), which I absolutely LOVED! I also loved Danielle L. Jensen's Malediction Trilogy, and I really enjoyed Labyrinth when I finally saw it so WINTERSONG sounds absolutely AMAZING to me, and this cover is is so pretty!!! It's so symbolic, and I bet it'll be even more gorgeous in person on the finished cover!

Shackled by bounty hunters, she is violently dragged back to account for her crimes. Her only solace is that the Banshee crew managed to evade capture, including Kane Arric, her best friend... with occasional benefits.

But when they arrive on Eturia, they find Cassia ruling her home planet, having imprisoned the rogue prince who would have overthrown her family. When the outer realms are threatened by the dangerous Zhang mafia, Cassia, Kane and the rest of the Banshee crew rally to protect the population from widespread enslavement. The reunion forces Cassia to consider who her true family is and if she can live without the boy who has been there for her through thick and thin.
I just read STARFLIGHT last week and I abso-freaking-lutely LOVED it!

It had that same wondrous feel as FIREFLY, and I was completely obsessed! It was soooo amazing...and then I saw that there was a cover and description up for its sequel, STARFALL, and I was even more excited!! While I'm kinda going to miss having Solara and Doran be the main focus of the story, I'm still excited to get to read from Cassia's and Kane's POVs...and I'm really looking forward to getting to see what happens next for everyone on the Banshee! As for this cover, I love it!!! It looks like they're soaring through space, and I really love the bright, vibrant colours!

Cover Catch-Up (30): Two Titles I'm Highly Anticipating!

In "Cover Catch-Up" I share some covers that have either been recently revealed, or that I've just found and really wanted to share.

I've been procastinating with my Cover Catch-up posts lately, so now I'm a bit late to the party with these covers. I still couldn't help sharing them and gushing over them though!!

CARVE THE MARK (Untitled Duology #1 )by Veronica Roth
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Release Date: January 17, 2017

Description:

On a planet where violence and vengeance rule, in a galaxy where some are favored by fate, everyone develops a currentgift, a unique power meant to shape the future. While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not — their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?

Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power — something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.

Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuve, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive — no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive — or to destroy one another.

While I wasn't as happy with the ending of the Divergent trilogy as I could've been, I still love Veronica Roth's writing style and her characters, so I'm EXTREMELY excited for this one! The story sounds intense, and I'm really eager to see Veronica write something new! As for the cover, I love it! It's eerie, a little spooky...and very foreboding!! And the description⎯wow! CARVE THE MARK sounds amazing! :D

I'm sure the second cover that I have to share today is another one that you've likely seen. It's the cover for THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR by Nicola Yoon!

THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR by Nicola Yoon
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Release Date: November 1, 2016

Description:
Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?
I borrowed EVERYTHING EVERYTHING from the library just shortly after its release, and it completely blew me away!! It was an amazing story, and I immediately became a Nicola Yoon fangirl. When I saw this cover, I was speechless! It's absolutely GORGEOUS...and the story, it sounds absolutely amaze-balls!! I can't wait to read THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR!

What do you think?
Do you love these covers, too?

It's 1929, and twelve-year-old Martha has no choice but to work as a maid in the New York City mansion of the wealthy Sewell family. But, despite the Gatsby-like parties and trimmings of success, she suspects something might be deeply wrong in the household—specifically with Rose Sewell, the formerly vivacious lady of the house who now refuses to leave her room. The other servants say Rose is crazy, but scrappy, strong-willed Martha thinks there’s more to the story—and that the paintings in the Sewell’s gallery contain a hidden message detailing the truth. But in a house filled with secrets, nothing is quite what it seems, and no one is who they say. Can Martha follow the clues, decipher the code, and solve the mystery of what’s really going on with Rose Sewell?

Inspired by true events described in a fascinating author’s note, The Gallery is a 1920s caper told with humor and spunk that readers today will love.
I added THE GALLERY to my TBR ages ago, but I was changing the status of a book to "currently reading" the other day and I noticed this cover in the "Readers Also Enjoyed" section of the page....and I couldn't look away. I think when I added this book to my TBR it didn't have a cover yet because there is no way that I wouldn't have been gaga over this cover right from the start! I love the blue tones, the gold and contrasting white, the fonts...and when you put it all together, I love it even more! This cover is STUNNING, and I just had to share it!

What do you think?

Are you a fan of "font"-tastic covers?
And what do you think of these two?

Cover Catch-Up (28): Simple & Stunning Sequels

In "Cover Catch-Up" I share some covers that have either been recently revealed, or that I've just found and really wanted to share.

Today I've got two covers that couldn't be more different! The first is for an adult, contemporary romance, and the second is from a YA, dystopia...but they do have a couple of things in common: (1) they're both sequels, and (2) seeing both covers got me extremely excited!

Keep scrolling and see if they get you excited, too!

The first cover that I have today is for one of my absolute favourite series and writing duos! It's BEAUTIFUL (Beautiful Bastard #5) by Christina Lauren.

BEAUTIFUL (Beautiful Bastard #5) by Christina Lauren
Publisher: Gallery Books
Release Date: October 5, 2016

Description:

One free spirited Brit. One man weighed down by responsibility . . .
(Also, a disorientatingly sweet Chloe, confused Bennett, grumpy Sara, Max as you know and love him, travel planner Hanna, chef Will, drunk Ruby, content Niall, George–oh, George–a rented van)
. . . and a whole lot of wine.

Pssst. Hypable just revealed this cover and that brief synopsis this week, and I am DYING. I love, love, LOVE this cover! It's super simple, but it looks a lot like the cover for the first book, BEAUTIFUL BASTARD, and that gives me ALL the feels!!! ALL OF THEM! This book makes me want to jump up and down and fangirl. I'm desperate for October so that I can read it...but I also don't want October to come because this is the LAST book in the series. The LAST one...LAST. If you can't tell (note: that's sarcasm, of course you can tell :P), I'm a bit sad that this series is ending. The absolutely amazing writing duo who make up Christina Lauren have a tendency to write their characters into other series...there's some overlap, so I'm hoping that while this is the end of the Beautiful Bastard series, it might not be the last time that we see all of these fabulous characters. I'm also hoping for more bonus scenes because they also like to write those. Either way, even if this is the end, I'm so extremely excited for BEAUTIFUL, and I love how the cover echoes the first one.

The second cover that I have to share is for a series that I haven't started yet. It's for THE SWAN RIDERS (Prisoner's of Peace #2) by Erin Bow!

THE SWAN RIDERS (Prisoner's of Peace #2) by Erin Bow
Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books
Release Date: September 20, 2016

Description:

Treacherous twists await Greta as the stakes get even higher in this stunning follow-up to the “masterful” (School Library Journal, starred review) novel, The Scorpion Rules.

Greta Stuart has become AI. New transmitters have silvered her fingerprints. New receptors have transformed her vision. And the whole of her memory has become one book in a vast library of instant knowledge. Greta is ready to rule the world.

But the new technology is also killing her.

Greta is only sixteen years old, but her new enhancements are burning through her mortal body at an alarming rate. Of course the leader of the AIs, an ancient and compelling artificial intelligence named Talis, has a plan. Greta can simply do what he’s done when the time comes, and take over the body of one of the Swan Riders, the utterly loyal humans who serve the AIs as part army, part cult.

First though, Greta will have to find a way to stay sane inside her new self. Talis’s plan for that involves a road trip. Escorted by Swan Riders, Greta and Talis set out on a horseback journey across the strange and not-quite-deserted landscape of Saskatchewan. But there are other people interested in Greta, people who want to change the world…and the Swan Riders might not be as loyal as they appear…

I haven't read THE SCORPION RULES yet, but I do have a kindle copy and I've been wanting to read it. This news of a sequel, and a gorgeous cover redesign make me want to get to it sooooo badly!!! I tend to really dislike cover redesigns, but I actually love these new covers so much! The first cover was nice, but these covers are stunning!!!  I love that they have the computer chip overlap in the background! The title fonts are GORGEOUS! And the metallic symbols for scorpions and swans are absolutely BREATHTAKING! Seriously these covers are so freaking pretty, and they seem to fit so much better with the story, even just going by the description. These new covers have gotten me all excited over these books...and I'm definitely going to have to finally read The Scorpion Rules so that I can devour THE SWAN RIDERS when September comes along. :P

What do you think?
Do you love the covers for BEAUTIFUL and THE SWAN RIDERS as much as I do?
