It's Monday! What Are You Reading? at One Person's Journey Through a World of Books

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, is a bookish meme hosted by One Person's Journey Through a World of Books, where we gather to share what we have read this past week and what we plan to read this week. It’s a great way to network with other bloggers, see some wonderful blogs, and put new titles on your reading list. So hop on over to Journey and join in...and leave a comment here so I can check out what you are reading.

Books I Read Last Week:
  • Ice by Sarah Beth Durst
So this book definitely picked up for me, and I ended up really liking it. The one thing I wasn't a big fan of was the huge time gaps, but I understood why they were necessary. I've never heard the original story that this book was based off of, but it sounds like it would be a very interesting origin story.
  • The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff
I loved The Replacement, and I posted my review for it shortly after finishing it, you can my my review HERE. I thought this story was just amazing, and I am so glad that I picked it up this week. :)
  • Gimme A Call by Sarah Mlynowski
Well this book has been sitting on my shelves for quite some time, I won it on Free Book Friday Teens!. While it wasn't my favourite book ever, I did enjoy reading it. Gimme A Call had a whole butterfly effect and Back to the Future thing going on which were pretty interesting. The whole premise for this book was that Devi's boyfriend Bryan broke up with her and she'd spent the four years of high school with him being the center of her life. She'd ignored and lost her friends and she even lost the close relationship with her older sister. So she makes a wish that she could tell her younger self never to go out with him and she drops her phone into a mall fountain right after her wish. Her phone stops working but somehow she's able to call herself  in the past. The whole idea of the book sounded pretty awesome, but I didn't really like Devi sometimes, she seemed pretty shallow, and she makes her poor past self do all her dirty work, while in the future she doesn't have to do any of it, just reap the benefits. Overall though it was a cute story, and I think Devi learns that looking back and regretting things just isn't the way to live. You have to live in the moment and enjoy life. If you want a light read this one would be a great choice.

Reading Now:
  • One Land, One King by Y.S. Hassan
I won this book on Goodreads a couple months ago. It's interesting so far, and I'm loving how big a role the land plays in this book actually. Everything happens because it is 'the will of the land.'

Books I Want to Read This Week(...or Maybe Next Week Because of Exams):
  • The Candidates by Inara Scott
I won this book from Once Upon a Twilight during their Halloween giveaway event with Good Choice Reading. I'd been wanting to read The Candidates for a while, so I was so stoked to win a copy...and I can't wait until I'm done all this studying and test writing, so I can dig into this baby. :D
  • The Julian Game by Adele Griffin
This is another book I won that I've been anxious to dig into. I won this one from Julie at A Tale of Many Reviews. I'm hoping that I can manage to read a little of this one or one of these other awesome books during my study breaks. ;)
  • Zombie Blondes by Brian James
I love zombies!...so as you can imagine I'm super anxious to dig into this one. I won this one on Book Rat. And it's also signed to me, and it says 'Keep eating those brains.' Will do...will do ;)

That's a taste of my past, present, and future with books for the time being...so what are you reading?? And why don’t you check out One Person's Journey Through a World of Books to find out what everyone else is reading. :)

Books I Read Last Week:
  • Marked By Passion by Kate Perry
Ok, I absolutely loved this story. I finished it in one day, and I definitely wanted more. I'm going to have to go out and get the second book in the series, Chosen by Desire pronto. I actually read this one when I was already overwhelmed with stuff I 'should' have been doing instead...what can I say it had me hooked. :P
  • Sticky Fingers by Niki Burnham
I can't remember where I heard of this book, but I put it on my 'For Later' list from the library. I randomly picked 2 books off that list, and this one happened to be one of them. I'll be honest though, when I put it on hold I couldn't even remember what it was about. I actually really liked this story, it was different. It covered a pretty serious topic that had quite the build-up, and I was drawn in trying to figure out what would happen. I really liked it, and it wasn't super long, which was nice because I was busy this week.
  • Sea by Heidi R. Kling
Oh man...this book was just awesome. I was psyched to start this book, and I wasn't disappointed, well except for the fact that I didn't have the time to stay in bed and finish it in one sitting :P
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who's into contempory reads. It deals with serious topics, so it isn't a light happy-go-lucky read, but it was a moving story that I personally loved.
  • Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Like I said last week, I have been wanting to read this forever! At first, I was a little disappointed. I'll admit I didn't really like this book at first, but the more I read the more I wanted to read, and I was so drawn in that I didn't even notice I'd reached the end. I think the language threw me at first. This book is so full of slang, and also the protagonist is a 14-year-old boy. I am not a fan of slang in books, at least not when it's all slang. When it's for an accent, I like it because I find accents very sexy, but when it's words like 'ain't' or something like 'we don't got no school' I really just can't stand it, so parts of this book really annoyed me. And I've had problems getting into stories with younger teenage guys as the protagonist, it's the reason I didn't keep reading the Pendragon series after the first book. That being said, I really liked this book closer to the end, Nick's humour made up for the slang for the most part, and it was packed with action. I can't wait to read Invincible, it comes out in March.

Reading Now:
  • Ice by Sarah Beth Durst
This sounded like an interesting story, so I ordered it from the library. I'm not very far in yet though, it's got a bit of a slow beginning, at least it seems that way for me. Hopefully it'll pick up pace soon :)

Books I Want to Read This Week:
  • The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff
I bought this book a while ago, but I usually tend to read library books first because they have to go back, so The Replacement got pushed to the back burner. I'm excited to read this one, it sounds like it will be a very interesting read. :)
  • Gimme a Call by Sarah Mlynowski
I won this book over the summer, and it sounds pretty interesting. I figure it'll be a good balance to The Replacement.

So what are you reading?? And why don’t you check out One Person's Journey Through a World of Books to find out what everyone else is reading. :)

Books I Read Last Week:
  • Nevermore by Kelly Creagh
I loved this book! It was completely intoxicating, and it totally drew me in. I am craving the next book so bad now...I'm not sure if I can wait. I absolutely loved how Poe was interwoven into this story, I haven't read any of Poe's works on my own, but I desperately want to now. I borrowed this book from the library, but I'm thinking about getting a copy of my own. I'll wait until after Christmas though, I'm trying not to spend too much on myself right now because it's so close to Christmas.
  • Nightshade by Andrea Cremer
I bought Nightshade the day it came out, and somehow it took me this long to read it...I blame life, it totally caught up with me, but I made time for this book, and I am so glad I did. I heard great things, I expected great things, and what I got was fan-freaking-tastic! Nightshade was amazing, if you haven't thought about reading it yet, you should. It's a pretty mature YA book, without actually having anything over PG-13 in it, so I think it's a pretty versatile book. If you're used to adult paranormal romances and have been considering trying out a YA version, this would be the perfect choice. :)
  • Marked By Passion by Kate Perry
I won this in the October Paranormal Romance Giveaway from Hachette on In My Hammock's blog...and wow, I just loved it! It was such an intoxicating read. I just didn't want to put it down and I was constantly telling myself I'd only read one more chapter. I devoured this baby in less than a day...even though I had homework that I should've been doing instead...oops :P
Reading Now:
  • Sea by Heidi R. Kling
I borrowed Sea from the library, and I'd hoped to get farther into it, but school's gotten busy, but after this week I should get some time to read! Yay! :) I'm a little over 50 pages in and so far it's a pretty good story.
  • The Vespertine by
Haven't made any progress with the Vespertine lately thanks to school, hopefully I can get to it soon. :)

Books I Want to Read This Week:
  • Sticky Fingers by Nikki Burnham
Another library book, I'm excited to read this one...fingers crossed I finish all my work early this week and have lots of time to read :D lol
  • Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon
I've been wanting to read this one for a while now, so I put it on hold from the library and it finally came...unfortunately it came when I was busy with school and along with 3 other books, but I still really wanna dig into this book! :)

Ok I also have to share these covers with you.
I totally bought a copy of people this week all because of Ryan Reynolds. :)
And I can't wait to see him in The Green Lantern!!!

So what are you reading?? And why don’t you check out One Person's Journey Through a World of Books to find out what everyone else is reading. :)

Books I Read Last Week:

• Zombies Vs Unicorns

This is an anthology edited by Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier. It had a bunch of short stories by various popular YA authors, like Cassandra Clare, Scott Westerfeld, and Meg Cabot. They each wrote a story either for Team Zombie or for Team Unicorn. I'm not sure if I can decide. I love me some zombies, they make up some of my favourite horror movies, but unicorns are so awesome too. I think I'm gonna have to cheer for both if that's possible. Both of them rule in their own ways...although if I had to be friends with one, I'd go for the unicorn, unless it was a flesh eating unicorn. lol

Reading Now:

  •  The Vespertine by Saundra Mitchell

Another book I can thank NetGalley for. :)
  • Nevermore by Kelly Creagh
Got this one from the library, it's definitely not a quick read, but I like it so far.

* sadly I had to return the Book Thief to the library...I'll have to read it another time, there were a bunch of holds on it, so I didn't take it out again. I'm also still reading A Scarlet Letter and Jane Slayre, but I haven't picked them up this week. I'm hoping to finish them at least by Christmas :P

Books I Want to Read This Week:

• Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

I bought this one the day it came out, but then I had a bunch of library books come in and it got pushed aside, hopefully I can pick it up this week. :)

I'm not gonna put any others for to read because I'm not sure if I'll even get to Nightshade, but hopefully I will. It's pretty snowy and cold where I live right now though so I tend to want to hibernate rather than read. :P
