Synopsis:
TRAGIC is over and Rook is ready for the future—Spencer Shrike and the STURGIS contract!
It’s three months of body art modeling! That means three months of Spencer Shrike’s paintbrush all over her body, three months in front of Antoine’s camera, and three months of twenty-four hour filming for Spencer’s Biker Channel reality show.
Wait a minute…what reality show? Maybe she should’ve read that STURGIS contract a little closer? ;)
Sure, Rook’s bank account is almost overflowing, but Ronin is angry, Clare is trying to escape rehab, Antoine is a worried mess, and Elise is just trying to hold everyone together. Her new family is about to fall apart before she even gets the chance to enjoy them.
Add in a mysterious man from her past, a road trip to the famous Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, and a final show in front of the entire world where all her good are on display, and you’ve Manic—a new adult contemporary romance that will definitely make your summer sizzle!
J. A. Huss likes to write new adult books that make you think and keep you guessing. Her favorite genre to read is space opera, but since practically no one reads those books, she writes new adult science fiction, paranormal romance, contemporary romance, urban fantasy, and books about Junco (who refuses to be saddled with a label).
She has an undergraduate degree in horses, (yes, really–Thank you, Colorado State University) and a master’s degree in forensic toxicology from the University of Florida. She used to have a job driving around Colorado doing pretty much nothing but shooting the breeze with farmers, but now she just writes, runs the New Adult Addiction and Clean Teen Reads Book Blogs, and runs an online science classroom for homeschoolers.
MY REVIEW
I loved the first book in the Rook and Ronin trilogy, Tragic, so I couldn't wait to read Manic, and I ended up absolutely loving it! :D I had my doubts for a bit while reading when one of the newer characters was getting on my nerves, but in the end, he turned out to not be so bad and I loved the book just as much, if not more, than I expected to!
The characters are by far my favourite part of this series! I'm a huge fangirl for Rook--she's just such an amazing and strong character, and I'm pretty partial to Ronin, too...the boy just totally knows how to make a girl swoon, and I love his chemistry with Rook! They have some seriously steamy love connections going on, and I definitely didn't mind the more mature sections of this New Adult book. ;) I also love Ronin's sister, Elise, and her boyfriend, Antoine! Their relationships with Rook just keep getting stronger and I like seeing Rook finally let people get close to her and it's amazing to see her finally get the family she deserves! I also loved seeing Rook make some really great friends. :)
Along with the fantastic characters, I find it really easy to get completely caught and wrapped up in the world that J.A. Huss has created. Her writing flows incredibly well and the story keeps you riveted. I didn't want to put Manic down at all, and when I finished I was left satisfied, yet I desperately craved more....Panic seriously cannot come fast enough! :P
Overall, Manic was amazing! It was a wonderful followup to Tragic, and just shows that some series really do get better with each book...which makes me even more eager for Panic! This book is on the more mature side when it comes to New Adult, so be warned of adult situations. I didn't think they were over-the-top, but just in case anyone avoids that completely, I am letting you know. :) I think that contemporary fans who like their characters strong and mysterious will enjoy this one. I just have to say that Rook is also just all-around awesome...she has issues, but I really
couldn't help but feel for her. In fact, if she were a person I knew in
real life, I would just think she was an amazing human being and I would definitely love to be her friend! So, that kind of gives you an idea of the way that Rook has me fangirling for her. haha Last, but certainly not least, I also think that you'll like this one if you're a fan of fun banter and steamy chemistry because Rook and Ronin definitely have both of those in very, very large quantities! ;D
