Resonance Blog Tour: Pack Structure Explained with Intelligence by J.A. Belfield (Guest Post)!

Pack Structure Explained with Intelligence. *cough*

Thanks to Ambur asking me what I think makes a healthy structure for a successful pack, I’ve been giving this some thought. At first, I just kind of went with, ‘Well, the Holloway Pack is the Holloway Pack, and they just sorta turned out that way.’ But then, upon berating myself for such a half-a$$ed answer, I started to realise exactly how much more there actually was to them.

You see, Jem aside because she’s just the sweet-smelling icing on their wolf-cake, the Holloway Pack does consist of recognisable components.

So, let’s take a look at those.

Number 1: The Leader
What makes a good Leader? Someone who knows how to boss about, rule with a fist of iron, and terrorise others into doing his bidding?
No, of course not. A good Leader is more likely to be followed if he has a willingness to listen, to absorb and adopt the input of his team, to empathise and make each member of his team matter, and he also the ability to control with request rather command.

Number 2: Confidante
Every pack Leader needs his Confidante. The one member he knows he can discuss delicate situations with. The one member he can admit to that he has no idea what he’s doing without feeling as though he is admitting a weakness. And a pack Confidante will never be afraid to let the leader know when he’s steering his pack wrong.

Number 3: The Muscle
Yeah, there has to be a pack Muscle. The one who believes it’s his job to protect all those close to him no matter the costs.
Does this make him a hothead, though?
Well, yes and no.
Yes, in that he can get pretty damn mad when he needs to and, dude, you had better watch out if you’re the cause. And no, because I’m pretty sure that madness could be reined if, if the pack muscle would be so inclined.
And he’s hot. Always the hot one. ;)

Number 4: The Witty Sidekick
Just as a pack Leader needs his Confidante, every pack Muscle needs his Witty Sidekick. The one he can be assured will stand by his side when admonishment is dished out for those moments where madness beats rationality. He’s also the one who stops the pack muscle—who takes his job very seriously—from being too serious. Very important component for balance.

Number 5: The Quiet One
Yeah, there’s always a Quiet One. The dude in the sidelines who no one can quite get a handle on because his personality mostly stays just below the surface.
Well, you know what they say about the quiet ones, dontcha?
Those are the ones you gotta watch.

Number 6: The Romantic
Well, someone has to be loved up and ‘deep’, otherwise it’ll end up all brash and brawl and no kissy-kissy. And I’m a woman. I need my fix. Which means someone, somewhere, has to provide that. Hence The Romantic. Because, whilst he may not always say the right thing, and he will most definitely mess up on occasion, it’s obvious he loves his female with a passion and would kill to protect her.

Number 7: Ah, yes, The Tim-Nice-But-Dim
Often there is one who’s spent his life being fussed over. Who’s been shown favouritism. Treated as though he needs molly-coddling because ... well, maybe he does. And whilst he can undoubtedly hold his own when need be, he is inbred with a deep naivety that means he’s often a step behind the rest of the crowd.
The result?
Mothers worldwide want to hug him to their bosom. And young females everywhere want his body because they know there’s little chance he’ll bore them with intellectual talk when they could just be getting down to business.
Because, no matter how much he might appear clueless, folk just love him for it.

And there we have. The extremely dissected components of a successful pack (heh).
So ... which number applies to whom, do you think? More so, which number would apply to you?

RESONANCE
RANDOM ONE-LINERS!

About Resonance:
Guilt is a heavy burden for the one carrying it.

Jem Stonehouse is no exception to this rule.

What if she’d acted sooner? What if she’d fully recognised the threat? What if she hadn’t allowed the male pack members to head into the witches’ ambush?

For one, youngest pack member Josh Larsen wouldn’t be trapped in the sleep of the dead.

Now, Jem is convinced it’s her job to bring him back to life no matter what it takes— learning more about her heritage, risking pack exposure, or travelling to places she couldn’t have imagined possible.

Even if the journey endangers her soul.

About the Author, J.A. Belfield:
One day, a character and scene popped into J. A. Belfield’s head, and she started controlling the little people inside her imagination, as though she were the puppet master and they her toys. Questions arose: What would happen if …? How would they react if …? Who would they meet if …? Before she knew it, a singular scene had become an entire movie. The characters she controlled began to hold conversations. Their actions reflected the personalities she bestowed upon them. Within no time, they had a life, a lover, a foe, family … they had Become.

One day, she wrote down her thoughts. She’s yet to stop.

J. A. Belfield lives in Solihull, England, with her husband, two children, three cats and a dog. She writes paranormal romance, with a second love for urban fantasy.

Big Resonance Giveaway!

In honour of Resonance's release, J.A. Belfield is having an amazing giveaway! Read below to see what she has to say about it all:

The Big Resonance Giveaway!

April 2nd 2013 marked the official release of Resonance upon the world, and yes, Resonance is available to purchase at all of the usual outlets. However, because I love and appreciate my fans so much, I decided to go on a mission to give something back.

Thanks to my super-duper editor, I’ve been granted permission for the following.

My Mission

I vow to give away a FREE copy ofResonance to everyone who submits a valid entry between April 2nd and May 2nd (inclusive).
On top of that, one main-prize winner will receive a Holloway Pack swag-bundle (see image).

So, what do you have to do to enter?

Simple. Read on.

Resonanceis, by no means, intended to be read as a standalone. If you haven't read at least Blue Moon, then you will have absolutely no idea what is happening in Resonance. Also, if you haven't read Blue Moon, then you will be hit upside the head with one massive spoiler for how the book ends if you read Resonancefirst.

Here's the deal. You can enter in any (or all, if you wish) of the following ways:

1)
Post a picture of you with your precious copy or Blue Moon somewhere on the Internet.
It does not have to be a hard copy (paperback); it can be the cover image on the screen of your Kindle/e-reader/reading tablet. No, pdf's do not count. If you have a pdf, then it's most probably an illegal copy, and so will only upset me.
Once said picture is posted, link me up so I can see it. If you stick it on FB, then tag me, but remember, I have a space (for some bizarre reason) between my initials on there. So, make sure you use @J. A. Belfield in your tag. NB: There will be a space in the Rafflecopter form to paste in a link to your pic, also, just in case I miss any or the tagging doesn't work. If you stick it on Twitter, then be sure to mention: @JABelfield so I can see your entry. And if you happen to stick it anywhere else, then be sure to forward a link to the post to j.a.belfield72 at gmail.com and include 'The Big Resonance Giveaway' in the subject line.

2) Post a review for Blue Moon.
Obviously, I'd prefer amazing ones, but I get that my writing won't jive for everyone, so any review over 100 words will be accepted, even if it doesn't rave and include 4/5 stars. However, I will read each review carefully (because I always do), and ascertain that I believe the book has actually been read rather than a review being composed out of a rewrite of the blurb (yes, this does happen on occasion).
Where you post your review is up to you. On Goodreads. Amazon. B&N. On your blog. Completely up to you. But the Rafflecopter form will have separate entry options for each of these places, and each one will be included as an entry toward the main prize.

Make sense?

Excellent!

Off you go, go, goooo!

Resonance Excerpt:
Whiteness reflected back at me from the ceiling above—a blank canvas of nothingness. For two weeks, I’d spent a few hours each day in the lilac bedroom. For two weeks, I’d prayed for a miracle. For some kind of enlightenment. Or at the very least, for Jess to find a way to wake up Josh.
Some days, the emptiness dulled my senses to a warble of incoherency. Thankfully, on those days, Sean came to my rescue, reminding me life still existed beyond the four, pale purple walls. Somehow managing to convince me that everything would work out.
If Sean believed Josh would awaken, what right did I have to dispute him?
If the rest of the pack believed, who was I to douse their flames of hope?
Yet, no matter how many hours, how many days, how many weeks I spent at Josh’s side in a show of optimism, the ache in my heart belied any positivity I feigned.
Rolling onto my side caused the mattress to dip, but even that jostle didn’t stir Josh. I flicked at an errant, dark blond curl, poked at his cheek. Still, he didn’t move, didn’t flinch, didn’t acknowledge my prodding.
Again.
Poor kid had probably been poked more in the past fortnight than he had his entire life.As my heavy sigh eased out, footsteps ascended the stairs outside the room. I knew from sound alone who they belonged to, didn’t even need to inhale to confirm. That didn’t stop me, though, and my lids lowered as my mate’s bouquet found home within my olfactory.
Seconds later, Sean’s body filled the doorway and cast a shadow across the carpet. “Hey.”
“Hey,” I whispered without looking up.
“Anything?”
I tapped my fingertip along Josh’s jawline, willing him to react yet knowing he wouldn’t. Josh hadn’t moved the entire two weeks he’d been under. Heck, we’d barely moved him. No toileting. No sweating. He didn’t seem to feel, hear, taste, see or smell.
All thanks to being in a death sleep, Jess had said.
I slaughtered the witches responsible for putting Josh under—for bewitching him in the worst possible way. At the time, their deaths had seemed fitting. That had been before I realised Josh’s predicament.
With a small head shake, I rubbed my hand along Josh’s arm as if the friction would help a body lacking in heat. “I’ve been thinking.”
“Thought I heard the turning of rusty cogs.”
My gaze skittered to the left and landed on Sean’s lopsided smile. Dark hair stood on end above dark eyes staring back at me. All male, all muscle, all mine, Sean Holloway got me like no other.
“You going to make me pry it out of you, Jem?”
Rolling my eyes at the suggestiveness of his tone, I brushed a kiss across Josh’s cheek and wriggled off the bed. At the door, I grabbed Sean’s hips and steered him backward across the landing and into our room.
His left eyebrow arched up. “You do want me to pry it out of you.”
I breathed out a laugh as I trotted over to the bed and sat crosslegged, tugging him along with me until he mirrored my pose. Nudging his hand up, I placed my palm flat against his, studyingthe size difference as male dwarfed female in a way I rarely noticed. “I’ve been thinking about what you said.”

Review: Resonance (Holloway Pack #2.5) by J.A. Belfield

Release Date: Already released.

Description:

If you haven't started this series yet, seriously try and avoid reading that description! And don't start the series with Resonance. You will definitely be spoiled if you read this one first. :P

That being said, Resonance was a fantastic novella! There was a great plot that was tied together nicely, but also left me seriously anxious for more. The things that Jem experienced in this one were really different from what she's faced in the other books, and I'm interested to see how these new developments will pop up in future Holloway Pack books! :D

As always, Jem and Sean were as awesome as ever, and their chemistry and banter kept me riveted. If you can't tell, I'm trying to avoid giving you any spoilers, but if you're a Holloway Pack fan, you'll love Resonance...and it will leave you desperate for more. :P

Resonance was an amazing novella, and makes a welcome addition to the Holloway Pack series! While I wouldn't recommend it as a standalone, if you have read the previous books, I would definitely suggest getting your hands on a copy! And if you haven't started this series yet, and you love werewolf stories, you really need to get your hands on Darkness and Light, the first Holloway Pack book!

If you still need more prompting, you will love this book if you're a fan of paranormal stories, especially if you like sexy leading men and fierce heroines. You also won't mind the additional eye candy that the rest of the Holloway pack provides. ;) And if you're a werewolf fan, you need to start this series as soon as possible! It's one you really don't want to miss! :D

So, have you read Resonance yet?
Or have you started the Holloway Pack series?
If you have, what did you think?
If you haven't, why not or do you want to?
