The one adjective used to describe my entire hockey career. I prefer to call it hard work, at least I did until my game went to complete crap. I haven’t scored in eight games and my team owner is talking about trading me.
I’ve never believed in superstitions. Never needed one. I suppose I was “lucky” in that way. But now the best way to refer to me is desperate. I’d wear the same socks for an entire year just to be the high-scoring center I used to be.
Imagine my surprise when after spending New Year’s Eve with a woman, I score a hat trick in the next game—that’s three goals in one game for you non-hockey lovers. Now, I have to track her down and bribe her to do it again before every game. Get your mind out of the gutter, I’m not talking about it.
I find her and when I get to know her better, I end up spending more time thinking about her than my game, but she’s made it clear she wants no part of me. She’s going to learn that I didn’t become a professional hockey player without having to fight for what I want..

If you've seen my reviews anytime recently, it should come as no surprise that I'm a huge fan of Piper Rayne. That also means that I'm always super excited when I get the chance to start a new Piper and Rayne series, and this time I was even more excited than usual because they're hockey romances...and I absolutely LOVE sports romances! So, I went into My Lucky #13 already excited for a new series with the added bonus of it being a hockey romance, and it didn't disappoint! My Lucky #13 was sexy, funny, sweet, and just an absolutely wonderful read!If you've already read some of Piper and Rayne's other books, you might have remembered Aiden, Saige, Ford, and Maksim from their cameos in A Co-Worker's Crush...and they also have a free prequel out that you can meet them in, Countdown to a Kiss. With that being said, I was already a tiny bit familiar and intrigued with these characters, and I've been eagerly waiting to get to know them more!
Aiden and Saige were so fantastic! I loved them apart, and I adored them together! Their banter, flirting, chemistry, and budding relationship was such a pleasure to read, and I think they're right up there as one of my fave Piper Rayne couples! I also loved seeing all of the Florida Fury players and really enjoyed getting to know them all! I can't wait for Maksim's and Ford's books...I'm also kind of hoping that this series ends up expanding further and that we get to see even more players' stories later on because one of the things that Piper and Rayne truly do best is developing fantastic side characters, and they're super wonderful at giving us readers more of our fave couples as a series goes on, too!
Overall, I loved My Lucky #13! The sports romance angle was extremely well done--with enough detail to make it clear it involves sports, but done in a way that won't turn off readers who can't be bothered with sports themselves, the couple and romance were phenomenal, and the friendships and side plots were so compelling! It was an amazing start to a new series, and I'm super excited to see where the rest of the series goes! I'd recommend this to all contemporary romance fans--if you're new to Piper Rayne, this is the perfect time to pick up one of their books because this would be a wonderful starting point! Highly recommend! This is going on my top books of 2021 list so far!
